It has about three inches of exposed fiberglass material under a thin layer of cheap foil on the back side. I had to wear a mask to avoid breathing in fine little fiberglass particles. A great indoor lamp for my bedroom replacing a huge old ceiling fan but Westinghouse blew it when adding spun glass insulation pad rather than simple soft foam. Now for two days everywhere in my bedroom itches with tiny strands of spun glass which had to be removed altogether to install, then thrown away.
