  • Outstanding Power and Convenience
Style: 28000 Watts - Gas Only - CO Sensor
November 2025 I purchased the Westinghouse 28kW Generator with Remote Start, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. This generator is an absolute powerhouse. It easily runs my entire home—including central air conditioning, appliances, and electronics—without even breaking a sweat. The remote start feature is a game changer. Being able to start the generator from inside the house during bad weather is incredibly convenient and adds a layer of comfort and safety. It fires up quickly and runs smoothly every time. Installation was straightforward, and the build quality is excellent. It feels durable, solid, and well-engineered. The noise level is surprisingly reasonable for a generator of this size, and the performance has been consistent and reliable during outages. If you’re looking for dependable whole-home backup power with modern convenience features, this generator is a fantastic investment. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants peace of mind during storms or unexpected power outages. ... show more

  • Works well - major power and great value - smooth starting
Style: 28000 Watts - Gas Only - CO Sensor
The product worked right away and was quickly cranking out 18000 watts for our house. I really like the electric start and the battery was full when it arrived as well. I installed to 50A inlets and connected them to the 50A outlets through a Generator cord. Works great--just make sure you get a good cord (NEMA, etc.) The unit, like most other large generators is loud, but we've been able to find a good spot for it where a some fencing blocks most of the noise from the main house. Beyond that, it IS very heavy. I can wheel it around on level ground in the grass but not up any sort of hill. I eventually used a very small winch to get it up a hill where we needed it to go. I was able to unbox it and set-it up without an other help. The best thing I like about this is the value. It lets me do whole house power, reliably, with dual fuel for less than $4000. As long as you're willing to do a little work for yourself in set-up, I think it's a great deal versus an installed whole home generator. I also like the flexibility of the dual fuel. I am planning on using propane as much as possible, but it's nice to know that I can switch to gas in an extended outage, assuming I can drive out to the gas station and/or keep enough gas around. Overall very satisfied. ... show more

  • Initial impression - good. A bit on the heavy side.
Style: 28000 Watts - Gas Only - CO Sensor
I have been trying to buy one of these for a while. They seem to be in continually short supply. It was delivered today. One thing that needs to be really clear, and this isn't a fault of the product, but it is HEAVY. You can assemble it on the delivery pallet ok, but getting it off is a different thing. You really need to have something capable of lifting ~600lbs. You won't do it by hand. I suppose that four healthy and reasonably strong men could take a corner each and lift it while someone pulled the pallet out from underneath. I used my tractor with the bucket removed, it had no problems lifting. Once on its two wheels, it is relatively easy to move around - again, considering the weight. I would be a bit wary about trying to push it down a hill... Everything you need is supplied - except the gasoline. I initially just put about one and a half gallons in the tank. It's not enough. I had to add another five to get it to run. Given the size of the tank, the gallon and a half probably only just covered the bottom, so I wasn't too surprised by that. Noise: Well, yes, any generator that runs at 3600 rpm is going to be noisy. I have a 6.6kw Yamaha generator that we have been using. This is not really much noisier than that. The sound is different, but once placed outside where I typically ran the old generator and the doors closed this is practically inaudible, as the old one was/is. Rating: It started, ran, powered my existing circuits effortlessly. It was a toss-up between 4 or 5 stars. I ended up knocking off one star because if I hadn't had the tractor to lift it, it would still be sitting on its pallet. I think someone at Westinghouse could come up with a means of getting it on the ground a bit easier. I will probably come back when I have added other circuits (such as AC) to load it and add a bit more to this review. I may be tempted to give that star back as the memory of that fades. Delivery: I have to admit that I had some misgivings when I saw that the carrier was CEVA. Long story, for another time maybe. But in this case, the impression was good. Relatively frequent tracking updates. Emails to set delivery time. They actually called to ask if it was ok to deliver an hour earlier, and placed this huge box in my garage rather than just dumping it on the drive in front of the house. Polite and friendly delivery people. Good service from them. So now, having spent this much on a generator, I am fully expecting no outages for the next ten years! EDIT1: Tried out powering the whole house now that I have two 50A cables. The one thing worthy of note is that if you have the plastic covered cable rather than rubber (the rubber covered ones are EXPENSIVE) they are not very flexible, so pluggin in is rather difficult unless you run the cables as shown in the photo. The left/front most plug has to go in first, with the cable running over the wheel axle, behind the wheel. Then the second one, with the cable lying on top of the first. Done this way it's pretty easy. Any other way is close to impossible. More flexible/expensive cable and/or different plugs (non angled) would be another option. All the appliances in the house, hot water etc. work fine. I gave the AC a quick try (not too long, as it's only 65°F today). That worked. Haven't dared to try the heating (heat pump) as it has 2 20kw heat strips, and my thermostat is a bit liberal in how it uses them. EDIT I have run this for ~1 hour every month, just to keep it in shape, and a few times for (quite short) outages. I decided that it was time for its first oil change. First problem: The filter specified in the manual just doesn't seem to be available. It appears that the FRAM PH4967 is an equivalent. If you want a much better quality filter, the Wix 51394xp fits. I went with that, and 5W-30 full synthetic oil. Draining the oil is easy. Removing the factory oil filter is NOT! I really don't want to meet the Westinghouse filter fitting gorilla on a dark night! Not a chance by hand. I managed to get my strap wrench in there - nope. Not going to budge. After spending most of the afternoon on it I gave up and ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CJ2BZY77/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 At first, I feared that it wasn't going to work, but then it gripped. It took a LOT of effort, but finally came free. The WIX filter fitted fine. If you haven't done an oil/filter change yet, I suggest buying filter wrench set before even thinking about it. ... show more

  • Great Option
Style: 28000 Watts - Gas Only - CO Sensor
5/5 Stars — Powerhouse Performance and Reliability! I recently purchased the Westinghouse WGen20000c generator, and it has completely exceeded my expectations. This thing is an absolute beast when it comes to power output — easily handling my entire home’s electrical load during outages, including large appliances, HVAC, and even workshop equipment, all without a hiccup. The starting and running watts (28,000/20,000) give a lot of peace of mind, especially during storm season. The electric start makes it incredibly easy to fire up, and the remote start option is a great convenience feature that saves me from having to step outside in bad weather. I’m also impressed with how well-built and thoughtfully designed it is. The heavy-duty frame, solid wheels, and sturdy handle make it surprisingly manageable for its size. The digital display is clear and easy to read, providing all the key performance information I need at a glance. Noise levels are lower than I expected for a generator of this size, and the fuel efficiency is excellent — it runs for hours on a single tank, even under substantial load. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to the well-laid-out design and clear instructions in the manual. In short, the WGen20000c delivers professional-grade performance at a residential-friendly price. Whether you’re preparing for emergencies, powering a large job site, or just want the ultimate backup solution, this generator is worth every penny. Highly recommend Westinghouse for anyone serious about reliable, high-capacity power. ... show more

Style: 28000 Watts - Gas Only - CO Sensor
Absolutely piece of junk! Bought 1.5 years ago and needed for the first time, this past weekend. Wouldn't run for more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time. Customer Service is absolutely USELESS! Warranty only covers parts but YOU have to take it somewhere and pay the labor to figure out what's wrong with it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GENERATOR AND COMPANY. Update to original review. after months of dealing with EXTREMELY POOR customer service and spending over $500 in labor, the problem turned out to be a manufacturer defect. Westinghouse response is too bad, nothing we WILL do. So, they don't even honor their own warranty. I REPEAT, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHAM COMPANY. ... show more
