Description

Remember when you could run your generator off either gas or propane? Whether we're providing your home electricity during a crisis or charging your family's cellphones at the campgrounds, WEN has been reliably lighting up lives since 1951. Now, with the WEN 4750-Watt Dual Fuel Electric Start Generator, you’ll be able to create power from two different sources. Simply select your preferred method, either gasoline or LPG, and power on the generator using the electric start. Propane provides the generator with 4350 surge and 3500 running watts while gasoline creates up to 4750 surge and 3800 running watts. Our packed panel features two 120V GFCI outlets (5-20R), a NEMA 30A twist lock (L14-30R), a 12V DC cigarette-lighter-style plug, and a voltage selector to switch between 120V and 240V depending on the task at hand. Run your lights, TV, refrigerator, sump pump, power tools, or other essentials with ease. The wheel and handle kit makes transportation easier than ever while the included 47-inch LPG hose allows for immediate connection to propane tanks. With its 240 volts of power and 224cc engine, this CARB & EPAIII compliant generator is the perfect companion for emergency back-up. Simply plug your transfer switch into the NEMA 30A twist lock for electricity in times of need. Fill the gas tank with up to 4 gallons of gasoline for an 11-hour half-load runtime. • Arrived damaged. Good customer support to fix issue. Good value.
Style: Electric Start (4750W) Pattern Name: Generator
This generator arrived damaged with a broken aluminum motor mount. I called WEN support (had to wait a while) and they are shipping me a new mount. While annoyed that I have to fix a new generator, I was impressed with the build quality I could see. I own an older, cheaper Rosewill Generator that is built on this same platform and the difference in build quality between the two is noticeable. I wanted a generator for my parent-in-laws that was fairly light, fairly quiet, had wheels, had electric start and was transfer switch ready. It needed to power a fridge, internet/network equipment, washing machine and a sump pump. They have public water, not a well. This generator will NOT power your normal hot water heater. The propane option will probably be a benefit too. Weight was a key factor here. They need to be able to MOVE it around on wheels, especially after using a snow shovel to clear the sidewalk around the house. For a 108 pound (dry) generator with all the required features above, there is no better value that I could find as of this writing. Generator started right up after assembly. Its slightly quieter than the cheaper Rosewill and MUCH quieter than either of my much larger and heavier Champion or Generac generators. I let it run for an an hour, plugged in a light to make sure it was putting out power. I'm still breaking it in before delivering it the parents in law. ANY generator you have shipped to your house can suffer damage in shipping. I would not hesitate to buy this again if I had the same requirements. When I'm in my 70s, this is probably all I want to pull around too !!! ... show more

  • Make sure you have a long neck oil funnel.
Style: Electric Start (4750W) Pattern Name: Generator
The generator arrived earlier than expected yesterday (2/23/21). It was already late in the evening when I got home to work on it so I didn't do a full run to break it in, but I did get everything set up and run it for about 20 minutes or so off a propane tank and it ran great. Way quieter than other generators I've used. As other reviewers have mentioned, first thing you need to do after opening the box is remove the red shipping brackets under the motor. This isn't too difficult if you just tip the generator on its side or back and use a little ratchet and wrench. The instructions say that it should arrive with the negative (-) electrical wire already attached because it's positioned close to the wheel, however mine wasn't. Both wires were loose, so I had to connect both of the wires, which again was no problem using a standard ratchet kit. The wheel kit is easy enough to install and makes moving it around considerably easier. While the unit is still heavy at 100+ pounds, it's way easier to move around than larger generators. The trickiest part was putting in the oil. I bought some full synthetic 5w-30 oil for mine because I want to make sure it lasts a nice long time so I wanted to run full synthetic right from the start. Where you need to pour in the oil is set in quite a bit further than the wheel and frame, so there will be things in your way when trying to fill the reservoir. You will definitely want to have a funnel with a long neck, or one that can be adjusted to reach an awkward position. I wound up tilting mine slightly to the side and holding it there while I used a long-neck funnel to pour the oil in, though I'm sure this would have been considerably easier if I had one with a stretchy or adjustable neck. Once everything was set up and the oil was in I hooked up the propane tank with the provided hose attachment and followed the instructions on the quick-start guide. Everything started up and ran perfectly. To test it out and give it a tiny bit of a break in I hooked up my circular saw and pulled the trigger a few times randomly. It had no trouble handling it. Running off propane the generator was also quite a bit quieter and emitted way less exhaust than a standard gasoline engine. It's important to remember Propane will only net you about 3500 running watts, a bit less than running on gasoline, but it has the benefits of running cooler, quieter, and keeping the engine and carburetor cleaner. 3,500 is also enough power to handle a standard 1,500 watt electric space heater, tv, and charging station at the same time without any trouble which is all I plan on using it for should another major storm hit again. The instruction booklet also has a table listing the standard wattages for most common home appliances so you can use this to help figure out how much power any items you plug in might draw. After being without power for 5 days I don't ever want to be in that situation again so I plan on taking care of this generator to make sure we're ready for any future power outages. Even though I haven't used it for a long term test yet I'm already feeling better having it around and knowing how easy it was to get started and running. ... show more

  • Well designed and built. A very good value.
Style: Electric Start (4750W) Pattern Name: Generator
I spent a lot of time researching generators. I needed to replace my old one which did not have electric starting or dual fuel capabilities. The Wen 4750 had the right specifications. It came delivered the next day and was easy to unbox and assemble in less than an hour. Being dual fuel, I wanted to use it on propane for clean, mess free operation. After reviewing the instruction book, I hooked it up to a propane tank. I flipped the fuel type selector switch to Propane, set the choke and with two clicks of the starter switch, it fired right up. Plugged in a couple of fans to test it and then plugged it into my house transfer switch and everything worked nicely. This model was on sale for $475 delivered. The frosting on the cake, was my electric company Edison had a $200 rebate on it. (Do to living in a fire area, the electric company sometimes shuts down in high winds). The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is the generator is a bit noisier than I expected but inside the house at a distance of 20 feet you can't hear it. ... show more

  • Worth the money for my needs.
Style: Electric Start (4750W) Pattern Name: Generator
I bought the unit in early December and assembled it with no problems. I filled with oil but did not start it but moved it to an inside storage. We had an Ice storm but did not loose power. We were lucky but I was prepared for failure. So finally after severe weather turned to a couple days in the 70's I rolled it out of the house and attached a propane bottle as I did not want to install Gas for no reason but starting. It fired right up on propane with no problem. One thing I found is that you have to run it on 120v by itself or use a 240v pigtail to use either leg. It will not run using the ground fault plug if switched to 240v. I also bought volt hertz meter at the same time I got the generator as this unit does not have a meter. The voltage was perfect, the hertz was perfect. the RPM was perfect. I loaded at half load with a electric heater and ran it about two hours just to semi break it in. I am very happy and it performed well. For the price and ease of use no one could ask for more. I also have bought in the past a Wen gas power washer and it has never failed. ... show more
