  • Works well in my home garage
I like the vise, been using it for a few weeks and I'm satisfied. One problem: the setscrew that locks the vise to prevent rotation stripped, or rather the threads in the vise did, the screw is fine. I used a 10mm tap and rethreaded it to use a larger bolt, and it holds better now. I don't know why it stripped so easy, I wasn't over tightening it. ... show more

  • Quality Assurance is Non-Existent at WEN
Just received this. Really looking forward to it. Now severely disappointed. The locking T-bolt on the side of the vise body isn't the correct size and appears to be stripped. It just turns in the oversized hole and doesn't actually engage the threads. As a result, the bolt doesn't lock the position of the vise head, rendering the vise useless. (This would have been a two second QA check on the manufacturing line...) The graduated strip across the top of the vise body behind the jaws (which was one of the main selling points of this vise for me), wasn't installed properly. When I leveled the vise head to check the zero point, instead of the center of the jaws being over the zero mark, the center was over the 9-degree mark, meaning that someone had to go out of their way to mis-locate the mounting holes for attaching the graduated strip, rendering the graduations pretty much useless. (With the right shop fixture, there's no valid excuse for messing this up. Again, lack of QA at WEN.) When I contacted the manufacturer, I was on hold for a total of 34 minutes, during which I was passed around from CSR to 'Supervisor'. So their lack of QA extends to their 'customer service', as well. I've now exercised the nuclear option and processed a return through Amazon. Good people, don't be disappointed. To adapt a phrase from WEN's own hyperbole: Remember (to AVOID) WEN. ... show more

  • Cheaply made
Part of the casting broke the first time I used it. Probably just cheap metal

  • Quality Control Lacking
Have to agree with A. Mullen. Got mine today (3 days late thanks to FedEx from HomeDepot; should have bought it here). First thing I notice is that when the jaws close, they do not line up perfectly. That is something kind of important to me. Second, I'm looking for where the arrow is to point to the degree scale when rotated. I find a little bump I'm guessing might be it. But vise is level when bump shows 4 degrees. Not impressed; probably going back. ... show more

  • Very poor design
Same as some other reviews- The T bolt that you use to hold the vice in place and stop it from rotating stripped out on first use while file sharpening an axe (not that much force). I asked the company for a replacement and they send one and that same bolt came stripped out of the box. Very poor design. It is a shame because otherwise it is a really nice vice for the money! ... show more
