  • Expensive, but it works!
Model name: OTR Trucks
I admittedly took the hard route, as they have a cheaper kit with a much more manageable mag-mount antenna but they way I looked at it the OTR kit was a better value and I could buy the mag mount antenna later if I wanted to try it. Also the gain (as-per the spec sheets) was WAY better with the OTR antenna. I did find that I could use the push up poles to gain height, but it didn't seem to be necessary as even down about rooftop level it was working out. I bring the shorter pole along in case I think it'll help given the location I might be at, but so far this configuration has worked well for me. I used the physical mount from a Diamond HKRS UHF antenna mount attached to the back window glass of my car. this has worked well for me for ground plane-less antennas in the past and seeing how this antenna does not appear to be grounded at all, I figured it would work just fine. so far, this seems to be true! The true test was being in a farm field in a very rural part of Washington and having the cell service show no or even a single bar with anything using data either failing to start or progressing super slow. In my case I was uploading a YouYube video from an event and saw it quickly increment to nearly an hour remaining because the data was going so slow. I hopped in the car and started it to activate the cell booster and almost immediately saw the signals bars increase and the time to complete the upload dropped to 7 minutes. I'm sold! I'd say if you are going to use the OTR kit on your car / truck, figure out the mounting solution. A mount for a CB Radio or Amateur Radio antenna should do the trick for any kind of hard mount. I was half tempted to adapt one of my mag-mounts but the diamond HKRS was just cleaner. the HKRS is crazy expensive to cannibalize for this but it solved for my need exactly and the car will still go through my garage door / parking garages. ... show more

  • Expensive but well worth it!
Model name: Overland and Off-road
I am a travel healthcare worker so I am all over the country. I purchased this while working in new england because of the crappy service I had going to and from work and when I was up in the mountains. Since purchasing I have only had one spot where service was non existent and others didn't have any service on other providers as well. This thing makes a HUGE difference. Best $500 I have spent in a while. I mounted it to my t-slot rails. ... show more

  • Works, but not much visibility into status
Model name: OTR Trucks
There is an app, but it's not what you think: The app is just there to show you install videos and run some standard signal-strength tests. The app doesn't connect to your booster; for all I know, the booster guts are 100% analog. The only booster status is through light patterns (a few red-green blinks at startup: some internal antenna feedback, etc.) That makes it hard to diagnose what's going on - does the booster have a solid link to a cell tower? Does the booster have a solid link to your phone? What channels are operational, and what channels are seeing feedback? Who knows. The excellent tech support recommended an awesome, incredibly rich cell network app (Network Cell Info Lite), which helped, but it's not the same as internal diagnostics. Full diagnostics from the booster itself (over Bluetooth?) would be really nice. Especially at over $500. ... show more

  • Great purchase

Definitely a difference when the booster is on and off, working in the Bakken area of North Dakota.

  • This is an absolute must have!
Model name: OTR Trucks
I cannot begin to even tell you how awesome this product is! I was in several areas that are known to have absolutely no service to a cell phone of any courier. I was not only able to make phone calls, but in various different spots, I was able to download videos and half decent access to the Internet. This is extremely important for me as I work remotely! I’m extremely excited because last summer I was not able to enjoy going out with my family or going places because I was always out of cell service and the areas we like to go. Now I don’t have to worry as much if at all. Make sure you do research on how to operate this thing. Otherwise it won’t benefit you quite as well. For instants… The internal antenna needs to be relatively close to the device that you’re trying to receive signal for. Approximately 18 to 36 inches. It’s also super important to note that you want the external antenna to have at least 5 to 8 feet distance from the internal antenna. This thing is not a gimmick. I almost like everybody’s bad reviews due to the lack of knowledge influence my purchase on this. It’s quite clear a lot of people think it’s just magic or perhaps they don’t understand how to operate it correctly. Another huge tip when you’re using this thing. Put your phone on airplane mode every so often when you’re trying to connect onto it. Just basically his airplane mode and then turn it back off. It kind of resets it so that he can have a clean connection. At least that’s what I think is happening. All I know is it works… This allows it to disconnect from other week signals that it may be picking up versus the amplified signal that the device is making. ... show more
