Description

You'll need a wet suit for this one. Zooming through gorgeous lagoons and brutal storms, your personal watercraft racer gleams with stunning water and lighting effects. Stunning waterscapes are just one of the highlights in this follow-up to the best-selling Wave Race 64. Intense water- soaked actions will keep you coming back for more over-the-top aquatic action. Wave Race Blue Storm is about heart-pounding thrills that never let up. Jump in! Wave Race: Blue Storm is set on eight aquatic courses in exotic locales, such as at a Venetian canal and an Arctic bay. Each rider is rated for acceleration, top speed, maneuvering, stunt skill, and strength. The game has natural effects such as sun glare, moonlight, and fog, as well as interactive environments with obstacles that can be destroyed by your speeding watercraft. Game modes include championship, free roam, stunt, time trial, and multiplayer, where up to four can compete at the same time. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Review Only one of two GameCube launch titles published by Nintendo itself--the other was Luigi's Mansion--Wave Race: Blue Storm is a follow-up to the extremely impressive N64 racer, which, until this sequel, still featured the most realistic simulation of moving water ever. Blue Storm, naturally, looks even more impressive, with huge rolling waves, water splashing on the camera screen, and beautiful reflections everywhere. This is the game that'll impress your non-GameCube-owning friends--unless you think they'll be excited by a ghost-themed vacuum-cleaning simulator. Although the graphics have certainly improved, some of the other changes in Blue Storm are more controversial. The biggest problem is the extremely heavy handling of the jet skis. It's no doubt more realistic, but, to the average player, it initially seems like you're driving a water-borne milk truck, such is your craft's total inability to take corners at speed. Things improve with practice, but it does severely limit the game's initial appeal. The cheaty, Mario Kart 64-style AI doesn't help matters, either. All this isn't enough to ruin the party, however, and this is still a topnotch and, most unusually of all, original racer. --David Jenkins -- Amazon.co.uk See more

  • Fun, But Can Get Difficult!
I came into this game with excitement and glee, feeling a strnge sense of nostalgia for the original Wave Race on the Nintendo 64. I left with a bit of clarity, a sense of fair enjoyment, and forced to look at the reality of what THIS game is. This game feels more like a jetski game with familir faces named Wave Race, but i just feel something is missing. To explain this feeling the best i can, just think of a couple different titles that have a completly different feel when moved from the N64 to the Gamecube: Mario 64 to Mario Sunshine and people hating how strict the controls felt, and F-Zero X to F-Zero GX and its reputation for being extremely difficult. Those two changes from both games i mentioned happened in Wave Race: Blue Storm. The single player is pretty fun. You will go through these competitions of levels, that have a random weather effect on each play through to keep everything fresh with the amount of waves to expect in a level. Its a total dice roll that is fun to experience, but the wrong weather can really mess up a run on the harder difficulties if its on the wrong level that you aren't as experienced in on that particular weather pattern. The characters you get to choose are a mix of returning faces from the N64 title, New faces, and cameos from the 1080 Snowboard series, which i think is pretty cool! There are also other modes to play such as time attack and Stunt Mode which can be addictive trying to get the lowest time and highest stunt points. A lot of hours can be spent playing these and you want oven notice until you're done. The multiplayer is kinda the standard multiplayer you could expect for a game like this during Nintendo's Era: No internet, but nice Lan options. All in all, this is a nice game when looking at it in a vacuum, but it just has that "Gamecube" era development philosophy that can turn some gamers off. ... show more

  • Fun for the Retro Gamer, Quality used product.
Broke gamers nowadays look into their old systems to rediscover their past favorites. However, games that one has never played, no matter how old can still be fun. Decided to pick this up in a good used condition and the game is a blast. Decent graphics for the GC console and actually takes some skill to get through the harder circuits. If you have retro in mind and have a few extra bucks, you wont be disappointed. Package contents were wrapped nicely, full manual and case cover. Game has no flaws playing whatsoever. Thumbs up for the seller and Amazon Prime. ... show more

  • not "could have"..."SHOULD have" been much better
jade1001's review is dead on. i'd give it 2.5 starts if i could. the control is horrible and unresponsive. everything feels sluggish and the levels are far too busy. the sense off speed, fun and personality are lost in this new version. the overall grainy look to the graphics doesn't help either. i'd rather they cut back on the sea life and spent more time refining this title. if you really loved waverace 64 you will be very disappointed. the audio, especially the announcer is one of the most annoying parts of the game. nintendo should've kept this a first party title and worked on it themselves like the original. because this game features most of the same courses from waverace 64 comparisons are very justified. DO NOT listen to these kids giving it 4-5 stars. i'm a diehard waverace 64 fan and this sequel is water logged. the developers at NST should be drowned or this subpar update should have been priced (much lower). there is no way fifty bucks is justified for this game. save yourself some cash and rent it first, i beg you. ... show more
