  • Perfect motor for inflatable kayak
The Watersnake ASP24 trollling motor has been a perfect lightweight addition to my inflatable fishing kayak set-up. I like being able to choose between slow and fast speeds... and between forward and reverse... quickly with the flip of the switch. The steering is easy and with a reverse option you don't have to turn the motor all the way around to change direction. This allows me to cast a fly line, briefly move the boat away in the correct direction to take out the slack or feed out more line, and then pause/stop the motor for retrieve. The results with stillwater trout fishing have been fantastic! The motor does not drag significantly if paused while paddling. The tilt mechanism works quickly and perfectly so the motor can be tilted out of the way easily when paddling for extended periods, in shallow water or when landing the boat. The unit comes cabled and ready to clip to a deep cycle marine battery and draws very little power... it ran intermittently 6 hours per day for 2 days without a re-charge on a 75aH battery. It is designed for use in both fresh and saltwater, so I look forward to taking it with me soon to the Oregon Coast for tidal estuary exploration and crabbing. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Decent trolling motor for the price
Size: 18 Pound Thrust Color: Transom Mount
This watersnake is a decent trolling motor for the money. I purchased it for my lost creek angler and I’ve been happy with it. I had to make modifications for it to properly fit down where my peddle drive goes but it pushes my kayak at a good speed. You just have to remember this is no top of the line trolling motor and lower your expectations with it. For my kayak on the high setting it will push me at 3.0 mph on the low setting 2.0 mph. Yes I can peddle faster then that but the benefit is I won’t tire my self out getting to my spot to fish ... show more

  • Best value of all time for trolling motors on kayaks
Size: 18 Pound Thrust Color: Transom Mount
Best bang for the buck. Light and fast. Better than bixpy for sure. Not as fast as Newport but saves more amps and can almost hang for 1/10th the price

  • Broke first use
Finally got out on the lake and had the Watersnake motor going for about 10 minutes. Worked great for that time. Then it just stopped. I blamed it on the battery. However, when I got home I found that the entire motor and propeller casing had broken free From the shaft. Can’t blame that on a battery!!! ... show more

  • Decent motor. Good price.
This review is probably most applicable if you are using a canoe with this motor. Speeds: the slow trolling speed is a little fast for fishing in a 14.5 foot canoe. Feels like about twice as fast as is appropriate for fishing. However it works great for moving around a lake at a decent clip, even against the wind. High speed basically makes the canoe plane and is almost unnervingly fast. Shaft: The shaft length is not ideal for a standard canoe mount/distance from water. This creates a fairly shallow prop placement, at least in my canoe, and leads to quite a bit of noise. The prop kind of wallows around a bit if the canoe goes “too fast” and that action creates the unwanted prop/water noise. The amperage estimates seem correct— I’m using a 35 ah battery and it will run for several hours of continuous use. Prop is a little cheap—made from some kind of rigid plastic. The claim that it reduces weed issues seems accurate as I’ve had few issues in two relatively weedy lakes. Overall, I’ve only used the motor twice but I’m generally a fan... especially for the price. Can’t speak to wear and tear / longevity. ... show more

  • Great Kayak Motor, Not Pefect
This motor is very light weight, weighs less than 10lbs. Weight saving is very important for kayaks and this motor meets the requirement. I was running a minn kota c2 30lb and it got the job done but it was about 3x the weight of this one and the extra 6lbs of thrust was not worth the extra weight. this motor does not cause any noticeable balance issues on my kaku voodoo or my ascend fs10. The light weight does cause an issue or two with other accessories, such as the shaft is narrower than other motors, and the motor itself is also narrow, so transducer mounts might not fit depending on what depth finder you have. I've been using this for a few months in fresh and salt water with no issues, and I liked it enough to order a second one for my other kayak. UPDATE* There was a small issue with switches kind of melting when using this motor with a LiFePo4 battery (which they tell you not to do) but when I took the motor head off and hooked it up using a PWM, it works perfectly. It is probably the best trolling motor to use to for budget friendly DIY projects. ... show more
