I have yet to find a truly 100% waterproof blanket that holds up to repeat washings and this is no exception. however, it does hold up quite well and is one of the better ones i’ve found. and i’ve tried a lot. it’s also insanely soft and feels like a regular blanket. Some things that will affect the waterproofing of a blanket are how much liquid, if it’s sitting for a long time, and how many times you’ve washed it (and if you’ve been washing it properly). if i was using them to protect things from mud, water, and spills i’d be able to get away with spot cleaning them but i’m using them for my older dog’s incontinence so they need to be thoroughly washed. I do cold and then dry on low heat and take out when mostly dry. i’m sure fully hanging dry would make the waterproofing last longer but that’s just not realistic for me. as it is, they’ve held up pretty well after months of frequent washing. one thing about water resistant blankets is if it is TOO water resistant you end up with a slip and slide situation and pools of liquid. depending on the type of liquid you’re trying to catch here, this can be a disaster. so you kind of want some level of absorbency. test it out with some water so you can see how the water resistant layers work. there’s a side that repels water and makes it bead up and a side that’s softer and absorbs and can sort of trap it. I usually go with that side facing up. as i mentioned, I use mine for my older dogs incontinence. especially overnight. She’s ~60 lbs so it can potentially be a lot and be sitting for a bit. I fold it in half so it’s double layered to go in her crate on top of a layer of disposable pee pads, which is then on top of the thicker bed that’s technically washable but that i’m trying to protect. the pee pads are just to catch the occasional breakthrough leak. These blankets have been a game changer. and are way WAY better than a regular blanket or towel. i keep a couple in my car as well because i’ve found they come in really handy. ... show more

Our puppy arrived with a preference for peeing on our upholstered furniture. Seriously, when she was really young, she would hop up on a piece of furniture, pee, and hop back down to the floor. So when our new couch and chairs were finally being delivered, we searched for a solution, and this was it. These blankets are very soft and comfy, wash and dry very well, and most important, are truly waterproof. The "liquid" actually pools on top of the blanket and never soaks fully in. It has saved our new furniture several times. And the blankets are super comfy for us to sit on, so our furniture is still usable for us even with the blankets covering them. Fortunately, our dog seems to be getting better at house training and is learning that peeing on the furniture makes me very unhappy, so hopefully we will not have to keep all the furniture fully covered for much longer. Once the blankets are no longer needed on the furniture, we will fold them up to use as dog beds on the floor. Our lovely puppy also likes to pull the stuffing out of traditional, stuffed dog beds, so we tend to use soft, cozy blankets instead, and these will be perfect. I do wish the blankets came in larger sizes. It takes two XL blankets to cover our 86 inch couch, and one large blanket to cover each, rather small, side chair. I would rate 3.5 stars if I could. I like the blanket for its good size and warmth. My issue is that the two sides become separated during use, because there are multiple layers to the blanket, and there are no tie knots or stitching to keep the layers together. Also, after only a few months of use, the edge stitching has come loose on a corner. ... show more
