I've been testing this mic for the past couple of weeks doing voice recording and also recording my violin and the sound quality is really impressive. The clarity you get right out of the box is superb, it captures all the detail and nuance without making things sound harsh or overly bright. When I recorded my violin the mic picked up the resonance and overtones beautifully, making it sound natural and full bodied instead of thin or tinny like some cheaper mics do. The low self noise is immediately noticeable, especially when recording quieter passages or when I'm just speaking at a normal volume . There's no annoying hiss or background noise that you have to deal with later in post production which saves a ton of time. The three polar patterns give you a lot of flexibility too. I mostly use cardioid for focused recording but the omnidirectional mode is great for capturing the natural ambience of the room when recording acoustic instruments. Build quality is excellent, it feels like a professional piece of gear and not some flimsy consumer product. The all metal construction is solid and heavy in a good way. The included shockmount is actually really well made and does a great job of isolating the mic from stand vibrations and bumps. The pad and high pass filter switches are handy for dealing with louder sources or cutting out rumble. What really stands out is how balanced the frequency response is across the board. Vocals come through warm and present without any weird peaks or dips. The highs are crisp and detailed but never pierce your ears, and the mids are clear without being boxy. When I get close to the mic there's a nice proximity effect that adds some body to the voice without it getting boomy or overwhelming. For the price this mic punches way above its weight class and competes with mics that cost several times more. Overall this is a fantastic microphone for anyone doing serious recording work at home or in a small studio. Whether you're recording vocals, acoustic instruments like violin, or even podcasts this mic delivers professional studio grade sound. There’s no question that this Warm Audio 87jr microphone is made for professional set ups. I am not a professional so in many ways, I cannot understand or hear some of the features listed for this microphone. That really doesn’t matter because what I can tell is that the sound is amazing and I don’t even know what I’m doing. You can hear a real richness when you record and I’ve only recorded me speaking. This model has extra features that you may not need unless you’re a professional. I do not need three selectable polar patterns nor do I need to adjust the decibels on the other switch. Having said all that I can hear the sound I’m getting without knowing what I’m doing. I can only imagine what it sounds like for a professional who knows what to do. I look forward to playing with this and integrating it into my current creations. Yes it’s amazing. It feels amazing. It’s heavy. It’s metal. It’s impressive and it comes with a shock mount, case and five year warranty. Based on my limited research of microphones, the price point seems very attractive for what it offers. ... show more

This microphone is drop dead stunning. It is an absolutely amazing package for the money. Rock solid construction all around to last for years to come. Comes with a bag and 2 mounts depending on use. The shock mount is very usable and will definitely isolate any noise from the mic stand. The sound is just stunning. The audio is crystal clear and just a touch warm. The mic pattern selection is an amazing feature that really sets this mic apart for different use cases. The omni, cardioid and stereo patterns allow for a variety of use cases. The switch is solid and feels great. The switch has a click to it when switching so do it when the mic is muted otherwise you may get a nice pop. It even has a built-in pad for recording high intensity sources and a high pass filter to filter out low frequency ambient noise from HVAC or other sources. The mic will record voices or instruments incredibly well and will be an excellent tool in my belt for the studio. I haven’t had the pleasure of using a Neumann 87 but I can imagine this is right up there well enough to allow even more people to produce at a high level without breaking the bank. After thoroughly testing this microphone out, I am pleasantly surprised! This microphone is absolutely wonderful for small band jams, picking up everyone’s voices and instruments very clearly inside our Clam tent! I was initially worried about what the tones would sound like seeing as how this advertised as “warm” but this mic delivers on every level. Rich, warm and very clean! Speaking recordings revealed the same thing! Balanced mid highs and lows making this a splendid choice for podcasts and any type of music! The build quality is STELLAR! So heavy and very well made. Packaging is also top notch too! Comes in a really nice box you can keep using for storage or a nicely made bag is included in the box also. This mic would be a great addition to your set up and at the offered price this is a steal. We cannot wait to put this into our set up for late night recording very soon around the campfire and in our small studio too! Over all the rating is 9.5 out of 10. This thing is stupidly good for the money. Plugged it in expecting “close enough” to a real 87—got way more than that. Vocals are rich and present with that classic warm top-end glow, no ice-pick harshness, just smooth air that sits perfectly in a mix. Acoustic guitar and overheads sound expensive: detailed but never brittle. Self-noise is basically nonexistent; even with the pre cranked it stays dead quiet. Cardioid rejection is solid, proximity effect is there when you want that radio throat but doesn’t get cartoonish. Build is tank-like—all metal, hefty, and the included shockmount actually works instead of being decorative junk. Switches feel a hair loose side-to-side, but they click positively and haven’t failed me yet. At this price it’s borderline unfair to the big German brands. If you’re tired of saving for years to own “the sound,” just buy the WA-87jr and start recording tonight. You won’t miss the extra zeros on the pricetag. ... show more
