The splitter arrived early, it's SOLID, no instructions, but the only thing you might need them for is the Ring, and the provided picture of the item installed made that obvious. I mounted ours on a big piece of timber (2x12 paralam chunk) so that it was portable. The finish is meh, but for the price, well what do you expect? It works well on short seasoned timber, but not so well on 16-inch lengths, or things still in the round.

It’s pretty much useless unless you are splitting very soft wood. Worst product ever.

The log needs to be already split and have a flat edge for the notches to hold it. Wood can’t be any longer than 16”. Very hard to do anything round. Wood must be dry and knot free. Diameter (outside diameter) works best at maybe 4 inches. Will work pretty good if you’re doing 2x4’s 6’s etc. those are flat and will fit in the notches. The notches will not hold the round side of a log because the wood wants to slip out. All in all, if you are using strictly for making kindling from already split wood, it’s great.

It is very well built out of solid metal. The hinge moves easily. The blade didn't cut through my wood, but I'll sharpen it again try again in case it's left duller for shipping.
