  • Small, compact router great for VR gaming
I do a lot of PCVR gaming. My old router (an ASUS RT-AX55) would sometimes have issues maintaining connection and/or speed. According to the Virtual Desktop forums, this is a known issue with the RT-AX55 and is therefore not supported. The PrismXR Puppis S1 Lite arrived and I was surprised by how small and compact it is. It’s basically 5.75” tall and 2.5” at the widest point on the base. It’s also incredibly light so if you have the need to travel with a router, this is the one to take with you! Setup was simple enough. Simply plug in the LAN side to your PC, the WAN side to your internal network or ISP router, then the power. You’ll see the PrismPulse network show up and you can simply connect to that network. One thing to note is that there is no password on the wifi network so you will want to use the PrismXR Desktop app to set a password to protect your network. PrismXR provides the PrismXR Desktop app that you can easily use to manage your Puppis S1 Lite. There are several menu options and diagrams to help you diagnose what is and is not setup properly. In my setup, everything was configured properly hardware-wise. The app then provides a “Check” button that will diagnose several potential items that might cause slowdown in your VR gaming experience. All of my checks passed, though I did notice that the wifi channel it was using was very close to overlapping the wifi channel of my other network. There’s a really cool graph that shows what networks are using what channels (screenshot attached). The app allows you to change the Puppis S1 Lite to use a different channel. After it performs a self-reboot, the new channel was set. Easy! There are also other diagrams and graphs showing things such as Link rates, etc. They are all useful in helping to diagnose what might be causing your wireless VR gaming experience to stutter or lag. If you’re a Virtual Desktop user, I should note that VD does NOT show the Puppis S1 Lite as causing a double-NAT issue, unlike some of my previous attempts at improving my wireless VR gaming performance. This is the “Lite” version. I noticed that my WIFI speeds were around 1.2 Gbps and the network ports on the device only support 1 Gbps. However, I’m using the AV1 codec and VD only supports 200 Mbps for this protocol so the 1 GBPs wired / 1.2 Gbps limits for me were not an issue. If you’re need higher speeds, you can always upgrade to the standard Puppis S1. Overall, this is a great addition if you want to improve your VR gaming experience. The desktop app identifies any potential issues for VR gaming and the device itself is useful for isolating your wifi traffic from the rest of the wifi traffic within your house, helping you to maintain max speeds. • Best add on for wireless pcvr!
I had the previous version of this device for a year and was pretty happy with it. But having used this for a week now I have to say the Lite will become my daily driver for PCVR. LITE typically means less but in this case I'm thinking smaller, faster, easier to use. Setup is much more straightforward. It recommends you connect via network cable to your home router but I went wifi to avoid the hassle and it works fine. I'm seeing steady 1200-1500mbps between my quest and the pc. Performance in demanding pcvr titles is smooth and visuals are great. Best add on you can get for wireless pcvr! ... show more

  • Works very well. Wish I could say the same about its more expensive predecessor, the Puppis S1.
Dead simple to set up. Includes Cat6 Ethernet cable to connect the Puppis S1 Lite to your router; just connect your PC/laptop to the S1 Lite. The PrismXR client works nicely, and if you're using the S1 Lite in PrismPulse mode, just point your Q2/Q3/Q3S at the network SSID generated by the S1 Lite (I would advise setting a password for security purposes, obviously.) Once connected it's as stable, at least within a reasonable distance from the S1 Lite (which is technically a network bridge as it connects disparate networks together). I've seen no stuttering or dropouts using the Quest 3 anywhere in our 1200sf apartment, so that's about a maximum of 40-45 feet and two walls from the S1 Lite. The original Puppis S1 used dual USB 3.x cables connected to your PC, and for some reason it killed network performance on the PC to which it was connected -- the hardwired Ethernet connection experienced dropouts and severe, SEVERE latency. This fixes all of the issues I'd seen with the original Puppis S1 and costs significantly less. Recommended. ... show more

  • An Excellent, Easy-to-Use Device for VR Gaming
An Excellent, Easy-to-Use Device for VR Gaming (with one major change) I was initially disappointed by a change in its core design, but my opinion on the S1 Lite changed once I actually started using it, and the performance and ease of use quickly won me over. Pros: Simple Setup & Outstanding Performance The setup for the S1 Lite was an absolute breeze. As soon as I clicked "Start" in the new PrismXR Desktop app, my PC was on the network, and all the essential checks (connection, internet, firmware) had a green checkmark. Once I was up and running, the gameplay was incredibly smooth. I tested it with Half-Life: Alyx using Virtual Desktop, and the game worked marvelously with no issues whatsoever. Even with Alien Incursion (using Steam Link), the performance was solid. I can also confirm that the signal is strong enough to be reached from other sections of my home. The Major Change: Ethernet vs. USB-C This is the one point of frustration for me. The previous S1 model could connect directly to a laptop via USB-C, which offered a lot of flexibility, and I only needed to use one cable. The S1 Lite, however, requires a physical Ethernet port to connect to your PC or laptop and the power cable outlet. You can connect the S1 Lite to your router using another Ethernet cable to get an internet connection or use the router's Wi-Fi. This isn't a deal-breaker, as I was able to use a USB-C hub with an Ethernet port to get it to work with my gaming laptop, but it's something to be aware of if you're a laptop user on the go. The S1 Lite is an excellent device. The gameplay is fantastic, and the setup is so easy. At about half the price of the original S1 ($40 vs. $80), the S1 Lite is an incredible value and the best entry point for anyone getting into VR gaming. While the shift from USB-C to Ethernet is a letdown for me personally, the device's performance makes it a worthwhile investment. I had a few issues with my Steam Deck, but I'm confident that it's a software issue on the Steam side that can be resolved with updates, not a fault of the S1 Lite. ... show more
