  • Well made, love it
Model: V847A
Had a cry baby and gave it to promising young guitarist 12 years ago. She made it big time in the music industry, you don’t know her name but you’ve heard her guitar. This VOX is really great! The sounds I get from my starter guitar are unbelievable. I run it from my guitar , then an Ibanez Ts9, then through an effects platform that I kept from 1993. For a $100 well worth it. Came in nice box, un damaged in timely manner. The range or sweep of pedal is tight, takes a little time to get comfortable. ... show more

  • Probably the coolest wah pedal I own!
Model: V846VINTAGE
Getting right to it, this wah has neither true bypass, nor buffered bypass: it has vintage bypass. Therefore, it loads your pickups even when the wah is not engaged. I purposely bought this to use with Strats into Marshall amps. The bypass has a way of smoothing and darkening your high end, so there’s no icepick treble response. Seems counterintuitive, but it works so well, especially if you’re going for late 60’s and early 70’s rock tones. It sounds pretty much exactly like the wah tones on Cream's ‘Disraeli Gears’ and ‘Wheels Of Fire’ If you’re a Strat-or-Tele-into-Marshall player, I can’t recommend this pedal enough! ... show more

  • A Good Choice
This was my first wah pedal, which I purchased with some birthday money. It is NOT a true bypass, for those who are curious. When I first plugged into the Vox V847, I noticed the sweep was sharp and quick. There is a spot, just past the middle towards the toe, where there is a very sudden sharp sweep, almost like flicking a switch, when the sound changes quickly. While not bad, it just doesn't suit my taste for most music, except for funk. I love using this wah pedal for Voodoo Chile type sweep rhythms. Also, something else I noticed is that in the heel-down position, things are very muddy, indistinguishable, and almost empty of any tone. When used right, this can sound pretty cool, but I just can't stay in that position if I want anything I'm playing to be heard by others. This pedal is great for Rock solos. With some distortion or overdrive, the sharp sweep sound great to emphasize bends and notes, especially when rocking back and forth to a set of quick notes or a finger tapping section, emphasizing certain notes, it sounds great. With distortion though, it is harder to get a smooth sounding transition from heel to toe. In fact, it is even harder. I recently got a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby, and will be modding my old Vox Wah, to either sell, or add to my studio equipment depending on the new sounds I can get out of it. If you are interested in electronics, there are numerous mods out there for this pedal. You can make it true bypass, change the sweep range, high end, low end, and low end clarity. Overall, I found this pedal very handy and fun to have when playing, as it really adds another element to your sound, and is always a crowd pleaser. While I listed many faults to this thing, it really works great for the price. I would choose this pedal over the similarly priced crybabies any day. As for recording and gigging, the lack of true bypass isn't that noticable, and the odd sweep range is fine if your know how to use it. It really kicks out some cool sounds and it ain't that pricey either. Give it a go if you're looking for an affordable Wah Pedal! ... show more

  • Built like a tank, works smoothly and sounds great. And slightly cheaper than a Dunlop!
Model: V845
(The only reason I gave it 3 stars for ‘Versatility’ is that a wah pedal isn’t the most versatile pedal in my book. This pedal is as versatile as any other wah pedal; you probably just won’t use it as often as you use your reverb or delay pedals.) I had an original Dunlop Cry-Baby for decades, but when the potentiometer inside it went bad (heaven knows how) I gave it to a tinkerer friend and looked for a replacement. This Vox wah pedal fills the bill perfectly, at a competitive price to the Dunlop. The body is bombproof die-cast metal, the top is grippy rubber, and the whole things sounds great. It’s not as sensitive to pedal position as my old Dunlop was, which is awesome. This is pro-level gear, and I love it. ... show more
