I love this heater I have purchased 4 over the years but the 3rd most recently I received from Amazon I plugged in, and it shook violently and loudly (while the others were nearly silent) and it was hot to the touch. then a black piece came out the side of it. It was quite terrifying actually the way it slid out I thought it was something living but once it was out, I could see it was just a piece of the heater, black and slick (possibly a piece of the fan). I contacted Amazon and they told me to send the heater back. To me this was the worst part because I didn't know if someone else would receive the same heater once it was returned to the warehouse (once you throw away the extra part it looks normal, unless you plug it in) possibly catching some unsuspecting person's house on fire! However, in previous years, my previous vornados have made cool days so much more bearable for my always cold self in a houseful of always hot people that I couldn't bare to go without another, so I tried one more order. The 4th order was the charm. It arrived undamaged. I contacted the company who informed me the previous heater could have only been damaged in such a way if it had been dropped from a very high place onto a very high surface (like in a warehouse), so we all know what happened there, this one is protected by the manufacture's warranty after the first 30 days. I wish I knew that before when I wasted my money on Asurion insurance which Amazon refused to transfer to the new heater nor use to cover the old.

Nice heat source, does not heat large areas. More for direct heat. I had a slightly bigger model that lasted a few years and was great for my med sized office. But this one will heat close to where I have it. But not more than that. Still a great brand it is the only one my office allows. I just wish they still had the older model.

A lot of Vornado products use electronic switches. Meaning if it loses power even for a brief moment, it will not turn back on with the power. Got to hit a button. Not this one!!! Turns on and off with the power. It has mechanical switches on the unit. a solid On/Off switch. this allows me to use external devices to turn it ON and OFF automatically with other things. Now for the Issue... When I got this unit, all worked fine. However High heat had a slightly off smell to it. but it was not particularly bad, and it did not seem to get worse... couple days later I found the heater off- off when it was supposed to be on. The safety features had shut it off! I turned it off and let it rest, and tried to turn it on again, see how the safety trips. To which I immediately got the smell of burning plastic. And it turning itself off within a few seconds. I tried again, but on LOW heat. the smell did not occur, and it has not had issues with LOW heat for a long while now. In essence, the High heat has failed and trips the safety features. Low heat works just fine. Although I had rarely used the High heat, it was still nice when I needed it. Otherwise Low heat is just fine for my uses. I'm satisfied enough that the Safety kicked in and most likely prevented something much worse from happening.

Safety features work INSTANTLY if the base isn't on the floor solidly. If you pick it up to change settings, this will happen so fast you could almost be startled. Now that is a great safety design! Vornado is a great brand. I never regret Vornado purchases, and they alway know how to disperse the air... be it for humidifier, fan, or heater. [I own one of each!] This little heater puts the perfect amount of heat out for just one pair of feet! [If you want to heat a room, they have other models.] I use this in my 2nd floor home office in a 100-year-old house. Science says hot air rises, but my old home hasn't been notified, and it gets quite cold in the winter in my office. Now, I keep a sweater on my chair and this heater by my feet. I am now able to work cozy upstairs instead of dragging my laptop elsewhere in the house. [I also got a little electric throw blanket in a basket as backup! :) ] Tip: Go into a cold area with feet warm already and you'll stay cozy with a heater. It's harder to warm up already cold feet. :) Especially if you have Reynaud's.

The temperature has been in the lower 40s lately so I had been running the built in electric wall heater in my apartment living room. Then I got the heating bill for last month so I decided to try this heater/fan combination. Found that if have it on the high 700 watt setting and I position it a few feet away from my small 750 watt quartz infrared heater, there is a "synergistic" effect. The heat from the two spreads around my large living room instead of just going in one direction. Now I only need to use the wall heater for a quick blast now and then. This heater/fan combination makes a nice quiet noise that could almost be used as a white noise machine for sleep. Very happy with this purchase.

This is a great little product. It's safe because it switches off if it falls over, etc. There is a fan that works fine. The hottest setting is too hot - you have to put it at a distance. The lower heat (which I really want) is weak, so you have to have it a couple of inches away to feel the benefit. It's a fine product, it just needs better heat adjustment.
