WOW. This toy violin was ALMOST just what I needed for my little one. It's cute and realistic looking. I also like how it makes violin sounds when the strings are touched. HOWEVER, you CANNOT turn it off. You can “stop” the sounds but as soon as the strings are touched again, it plays again. The strings are very sensitive to touch. You cannot play without sounds unless you unscrew the battery door and remove the batteries. Also, the violin sounds that come from this toy are unbearably LOUD. I read other reviews claiming this was a loud toy but I thought ‘how bad could it actually be?’ Well... it’s pretty bad. It's just TOO loud. By far the loudest toy I have ever owned. No volume button and no way to muffle the sounds. Pray you don't bump into this toy in the middle of the night, you just might startle the entire neighborhood. ... show more

I purchased this as a TOY gift for my 5 year old son who has been showing promise with stringed instruments. I purchased this to see if he prefers this over the cello without making a huge investment. This was the perfect size for my 5 yr old although a little big for his age, this was still perfect. We were able to et proper positioning with neck / bow. I plan to purchase a violin for his music lessons but this was perfect to introduce and engage. ... show more

for a toy that will be played right near the child’s face, the volume is painfully loud and not adjustable. i had to take it apart and muffle the sound with cloth to make it bearable.

    • An absolute DISASTER!!!!!
This is arguably the worst piece of garbage I have ever received in the mail. The ONLY positive thing I can say is that it LOOKS nice and is a good size for elementary-aged kids. Ok now for the negative things….the violin box came mangled and untaped in parts (my guess is someone else already returned this exact crappy toy and then it was sent to me)!!!! The writing on the box (instructions and other information) showcased a very poor use of the English language. Furthermore, the box advertises that “batteries are included.” They were not. Once I put my own batteries in, I tightened the strings properly. Then I witnessed the horrifying sounds of this “violin.” It sounded NOTHING like a violin. It’s like the manufacturer didn’t even try to imitate the sound of a stringed instrument. It sounded like a LOUD electronic video game…an unpleasant noise. Ugly to the ears. And painful. Other reviewers were correct….this toy is insanely loud. And there’s no way to adjust the volume or turn it off (you have to unscrew the latch and take out the batteries for there to be no chance of sound coming out of it). Otherwise a light breeze could set off one of the strings. To make matters worse, only 2/4 strings even worked on this thing! I’m guessing I received a defective one. I think each of the 4 strings are supposed to register sound when glided over by the bow. Two strings never made any sound (no matter how tight or loose I made the strings…and I toyed with this thing for several minutes trying to get the two broken strings to work). The two strings that DID “work” were problematic in their own way however. They seemed extremely delayed at times to deliver sound (like sound blasted through the toy noticeably well after I moved the bow over a string). And other times, the sound came out even before I struck a string (like overly sensitive). Unpredictable and super junky. I am returning this toy immediately. Total disaster. ... show more

Got this for a younger sister as her big sister starts violin lessons. It works great and as you touch any string it plays the next note in the song. The wires do need to be tightened to work. It is loud but kids are loud it’s part of the deal. She was so excited to be like her sister and have her own violin. Perfect size for a 3 year old. ... show more

Gave this violin as a Christmas present. Eventually my little girl will play a real violin in grade 4 so we got this one while sh is still little so she could practice for a year or two before then. It is a toy but still has the feel and Sound of a real violin.
