  • Well built set with original idea
I'm always looking for creative and original builds, when I saw this I had instant flashbacks to a guitar I built for Lego, and felt I had to try this one (I do music so there is that there too). I was happy with this build - mostly. Score wise I'd rather give this a 4.5, but since I can't I rounded up. The good? The finished product looks good, and the build is NOT repetitive, something that could have easily happened. The "Eh", The strings should be a different color, but I knew that going in, the manual chose the "only color this step" format for each step which isn't a nightmare here, but something I dislike greatly. The bad? The stupid bags. With building sets you either have something like the Lego style for bags - clearly labeled and lots of bags to separate steps OR you have the knock-off style of shoving everything into 3 bags, which makes the build take 4 times longer as you search through hundreds of pieces to find what you are looking for at each step. This set falls in an uncomfortable middle, they have PLENTY of bags to reduce sorting time - hats off to them for that, but then the bags are labeled with hard to follow numbers like "10-50" which isn't a huge deal, but it becomes incredibly annoying when the text is black and relatively small, meaning you don't have to hunt for pieces like the knock off sets, but you instead are hunting through the box for bags - which there are a lot. At the end of the day, it was a great finished build and the building process itself was enjoyable, but you'll want to sit down and sort the bags before you do anytyhing else. ... show more

  • Sucked
The pieces didn’t fit together and just wasn’t worth it

  • Looks so REAL…if only it played music!
I absolutely love this violin building set! This is the perfect gift for any older child or adult, who loves to build with building blocks, or four a music and or violin enthusiast! There are about 1000 pieces in this kit, which makes it a little bit of a challenge, but the end result is so beautiful! It’s the size of a real violin, and it even comes with strings! It’s not too difficult to build, which makes it fun to just sit and put together the pieces. There are many different sizes and shapes of pieces included in this kit, but I love that they all come individually packaged so that locating which ones you need is really easy. The instructions are really straightforward and easy to understand which is also really nice. These bricks are also compatible with Legos and mega blocks, so you could intersperse them if necessary or even if you just wanted to. The box is very plain and generic, which was kind of sad because I thought if you want to give it as a gift it’s not really as exciting because you don’t see what’s inside the package. Even so, it still would make an awesome gift! It’s a little bit on the delicate side after it’s built, but I would expect that from something that is this intricately built with tiny little plastic blocks… But just be aware. Overall, this is one of the most impressive and fun Building block projects I have ever seen, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys these kinds of things. It makes me want to build an entire orchestra! ... show more

  • Looks good---but fragile!
This compatible-brick model is very nice for display, but it is a bit fragile in construction: look, don't touch! The pieces are not quite up to Lego standards in quality, but overall I'd say this set is a reasonable value---and a very nice gift for a musician who is also a brick builder. Instruction manual is large. It uses the "grayed-out" style for previously-placed pieces, which I do not like at all; full color is the Lego standard and there's no reason for this booklet not to follow that (it already uses some color on every page anyway). Parts are in numbered bags, but NOTE: the bags are labeled with the "Steps" and the print is very very small (see photo); so the booklet will show an icon for the 'range' of steps, and you have to find that corresponding bag. Design of the violin is nice to look at, but not particularly stable, It's more hollow than it needs to be, and the force required to add certain parts can crush the frame inward. Other elements are held on by a single dot, so they come off far too easily. The bow is also horribly fragile. Couple of important tips for assembly: the plastic "strings" are not all the same length, so be certain you are choosing the right lengths for the different areas. There are lot of black pins for the build, and they are not all the same: make sure you aren't using the rod-tip pins when you should be using the round-tip pins. There are a couple of steps where it's tricky to pop everything together. The slight variations in manufacture of the pieces also means a lot of pressure is required to push everything together tightly. ... show more

  • Great Looking Build
This set is a very nice looking display piece. Pieces are LEGO-compatible. Instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. At each step, it highlights which pieces to add which is especially helpful since nearly every piece is the same color. The bag numbering is a also a little different as they're stamped with the step numbers they cover instead of just single, sequential numbers. The strings are hard to to get to sit well, but other than that its an easy, good-looking build. ... show more

  • Fast Build Wish Some Problems
Looks nice when completed. The issues I had were the keys (Had to add spare small black round connectors from my spares from other builds to keep them on), the bow string was cut too short (Had to remove one of the connector links to shorten the bow to make the line fit into both ends) and the bow stem assembly (Would not stay straight, always bowed). Other than that, it went well. Makes a good display piece. ... show more
