I received the envelope that my faceplate was supposed to be in. The corner seam was ripped and the faceplate was missing. I reported it to Amazon and received a replacement within a few days. The faceplate is sturdy and exactly what was described. I am using it to turn a bowl and it works great.

So I’m building a Lathe and was in need of a face plate for 5/8” spindle. I went to a machine shop in town and was quoted $160 for a faceplate of the same size. This one fits and was much less. I’ll update this review if my opinion changes in the future.

I'm keeping it because the screw hole layout allows for multiple screw placement. I didn't know I needed it but due to the quality I do after all. I thought it would allow me to attach the 5" chuck I purchased to fit my 8 to1" lathe drive.

The faceplate I received is well made and fits onto my ridgid lathe using an adapter plate that I already owned. I had been wanting to buy a similar plate that cost substantially more to begin practicing bowl turning. The plate is thick steel and well balanced. This faceplate is well made of good steel. It has a nice finish and the threads fit well on my Delta lathe. The the hub on the faceplate is too long which prevents proper thread engagement. Only 3 threads are able to screw on before the hub bottoms out against the base of the lathe spindle. This does not engage enough to keep the faceplate stable. I tried the plate on two different lathes and both had the same problem. To fix the problem I will mount the faceplate on my metal lathe and shorten the hub by about 12 inch. There are setscrews in the hub that may fit the spindle on a different lathe but they cannot be used on a Delta lathe. The price is similar to other 6 inch faceplates. I would not recommend it unless you have a way to shorten the hub. ... show more
