This T-stat ticked all the right boxes on paper but the execution is a big problem. It seems the temperature sensor is being influenced by heat generated by the CPU/display itself. This results in a wildly-inflated room temperature reading (8-10F). When I first installed it, it read 68F (the temperature the previous T-stat was set at), then it did a firmware update. That took several minutes of apparently heavy computing and once it rebooted, it reported a room temperature of 81 degrees! At first I thought something had gone wrong in the firmware update but over the next hour so, the temperature reading declined to be only 6-8F warmer than the actual room temperature. If that's not bad enough, the close relationship between the temp sensor and electronics heat results in a horrible problem with deadband. Normally a T-stat will have a 2F degree deadband (this one is no exception). Deadband, for example, in heat mode, is how much cooler than your set point it allows the room to get before calling for heat, otherwise the furnace would short-cycle constantly). Since the temp sensor is insulated and influenced by heat generated by the device itself, the actual room temperature drops 5-6F before the inside of the thermostat housing cools enough to call for heat. And if THAT'S not bad enough, their horrible app doesn't live-update temp readout or anything since your last sign-in (you have to go out and back in to get it to update to current reading/setting), your phone will not match the thermostat unless you manually update it. And THEN, the app hounds you relentlessly to share your location to the point of almost crashing (the T-stat knows ITS location, there is NO NEED for Vine to know where I am all the time if I'm not using the Geofence option). These are flaws that are inexcusable and makes this device instant e-waste. I can't believe this made it through product development and validation. I have already purchased a "renewed" Honeywell for just about $20 more and I've never had any issues with Honeywell. Will be returning this today and avoiding this brand. (Note: The white thermostat in the photo is the old one and it was reading 62F before I picked it up, just inches from the Vine T-stat. That temp is the room temp, not the set temp. ... show more
