  • Another popular proven product from Viltrox!
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The Viltrox DC-70 II 7” LCD monitor has quickly proven itself to be one of those “Why didn’t I get one of these a long time ago?” kinds of products. It’s not only making video production a lot easier, but I am pleasantly surprised at how it is helping my studio still photography, whether portraiture, product shots, table-top still life or macro. A great tool for video creators who are on a budget, this is truly an affordable monitor. It does not include a recorder, something that would certainly put it into a still higher price category. The construction quality, features and performance are better than the low price might lead one to expect. Also note that this monitor will accept 4K input, though it downsizes it to 1024 X 600. This is a plus over monitors that will not accept a 4K input. The monitor’s construction seems to be more than adequate, while using lightweight materials, something that is appreciated when packing it around or hanging it at the end of articulated grip hardware. Powering is accomplished by either a Sony-type battery or a non-supplied, external DC power supply. Viltrox supplied one of their own cool batteries that includes an integral battery level indicator and USB charging connector. I love this battery and have several that I use with LED lights, such as the Viltrox Retro 12X. I don’t need to repeat all the features that you’ll find in the product listing, but a few deserve mention. The sunshade pops open and may also be easily detached, if desired. I keep it on all the time when shooting outdoors in daylight. Cables are supplied to connect a camera’s HDMI output to the monitor’s HDMI input, but there’s also an HDMI output to send to another monitor or a recorder. There is even a soft fabric pouch supplied, to protect against dust and abrasion when stored or transported. Of the various listed additional functions, the DC-70 II offers besides monitoring video, there are three that I particularly appreciate. The first is audio monitoring, either via the headphone output jack or from the internal speakers. Sadly, connecting headphones to some cameras can be a problem, but the standard 3.5mm TRS jack on the Viltrox monitor makes it easy. The second of these features is the focus peaking, something I find particularly useful when doing manual focus. Third is the False Color feature. This is a great way to ensure accurate skin tones and to avoid crushing blacks or clipping highlights. It can also help ensure exposure consistency from one scene to another. While the DC-70 II is equipped for hot shoe mounting, I don’t feel comfortable mounting a monitor of this size to the hot shoe of either of my cameras, where it can exert potentially damaging lateral forces. I prefer to mount to a cage or an articulated arm. This would be true of any monitor this size. And there is a ¼”-20 threaded insert on each edge of the housing for maximum mounting versatility. The DC-70 is a feature-packed tool that offers a lot of value. This is not a high-priced monitor, so there are a few features I’d love to have, but I’m not a full-time pro user, and am not willing to shell out the big bucks to get them. For example, I’d prefer to see more dedicated controls for calling up functions, rather than a single combination rotary control/push button that allows the user to navigate the menu of functions. It would make selecting functions much quicker. I’d also like to see a color bar across the bottom of the screen, when the False Colors function is activated, showing the value range of each color. All in all, this is an excellent performer at a great price. For video creators that need performance, features and affordability, I give the Viltrox DC-70 II five stars! ... show more

  • Loses 4k connection
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
Loses signal when recording in 4K. No firmware update option available. Forces you down to 1080p if you want to use the monitor while recording.

  • Great for the money!
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The media could not be loaded. This little 7 inch monitor can do more advanced functions, but I really just want it to give me an accurate display of what my camera’s shooting. I had it up and running within moments of opening the box. The picture looks great, and the build quality seems good. For the price, this gets the job done. ... show more

  • Works perfectly with my R5
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The media could not be loaded. I’ve purchased several products from this brand and had pretty good luck so thought I’d give this a shot too. Super happy I took the chance! I needed a second monitor but didn’t need a ton of extras. This was a great option for the price and does a whole lot more than I expected it to. The best thing about this monitor for me is the focus peaking. But as you can see in the video the menu has a ton of great options outside of my camera. No issues with anything so far, it’s been plug & play. HDMI from my R5 straight to the unit. NP style batteries which is great because I already have extras. As far as usage I’ve found this to be pretty on par with color. It’s nice and bright and I can actually see darker areas better than using my cameras display. I love that they put a mount on both the side and the bottom. Side mount works great when I have a shoulder mount attached to my camera. The functions are all controlled with the dial by spinning to choose and pressing to select, the simplicity is nice. The sunshade snaps on really well to the monitor making it seem like it’s a single piece, actually better than my flimsy one on my ninja. I’ve used this a few times now for some work projects and I really like it. Worth buying a second for my other setup. If you’re doing smaller projects or even photography, I’d recommend giving this a shot before you dump a bunch of money on something else. ... show more

  • DO NOT USE ON SONY ALPHA CAMERAS!!
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The shoe mount on the product broke on the second day of usage due to stress from frequently adjusting the monitor. If you have a Sony Alpha camera (or any other compact camera), go for 5" monitors. I won't blame the build quality (though all-plastic is not a good idea) as I'm sure this product works fine on other cameras. As for the quality of the signal? It was alright. A lot of people complain about the "finicky" menus when I had no problem navigating through them at all. It's really not that difficult. ... show more

  • Just did not work for me
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The monitor was nice and let me see the area I was photographing but the battery life was limited to only about an hour after being fully charged. I photograph youth football games and the battery would need to last at least 2 hours. Also, whenever I connected it, it would take a few attempts (turning the camera and monitor on and off a few times) to get the monitor to turn on in live view. Also the heads up display options were only in an Asian language, possibly Chinese. ... show more

  • Really helped my videos
Size: DC-70II-7 inch
The media could not be loaded. Pros: Large enough to see far away, very high resolution, bright even outdoors, sun-shade is convenient. battery is included. Cons: You won't know how you ever went without it. I've been using this for my Youtube videos and it really helps me see what I'm filming a lot more easily. The overall build quality feels premium but also it manages to be very lightweight. If you're looking for a camera monitor, I highly recommend this one! ... show more
