  • low natural light
*: 25mm f1.7
The viltrox 25mm is a great match with the sony A6700. The low light focus is much better on the a6700. I did have some challenges on the A6500.

  • Too Lightweight?
*: 56mm F1.7
Its so lightweight it feels like a toy camera lense. To be fair I am NO pro photographer. I do like its lightweight for use on a gimbal. Ive had a great experience with the lense so far I wanted to try a similar mm lense that my sony came with, but with a lower F rate honestly I dont even know enough about photography to be dangerous, so its been a great lense for me with my lack of knowledge. I seen someone else mention problems with focus, but my zv-e10 it worked flawlessly. Overall super happy with it but I generally use my sigma 16 1.4 instead so its just been sitting on the shelf for awhile. ... show more

  • THE BEST BRAND EVER.
The media could not be loaded. Razor fast focus? Check. Sharp video and images? Check. A full frame price that is literally unbeatable? Check. As long as you stay out of the rain(Not weatherproof) you will literally never need a different brand. Lowlight and well-lit AF is great. This lens focuses 2X faster than my Sigma 24-70 Art Lens. I don't know why you would ever get any other brand except for the clout.. but honestly, Viltrox sounds cooler to say out loud than Sony😂😂 Viltrox, thank you. I will be buying all your FE lenses and some of your APSC lenses. ... show more

  • Impressive lens
The media could not be loaded. **Great Budget Lens for Versatile Use** This lens has been an absolute game-changer for me, especially considering its budget-friendly price point. It’s lightweight, compact, and incredibly easy to carry around, making it a perfect choice for both work and personal use. Whether I’m shooting events, capturing travel videos, or just documenting everyday moments, this lens has delivered reliable performance every time. One of the standout features is the fast and nearly silent autofocus motor. It’s quick enough to keep up with dynamic scenes, and the quiet operation is a real plus when recording video or shooting in environments where sound matters. I've used it for everything from quick snapshots at events to more planned-out video work, and it consistently provides sharp, clear results. For anyone on a budget, this lens is definitely worth it. It punches well above its price, offering a solid range of capabilities without breaking the bank. While it might not have all the premium features of higher-end lenses, it more than holds its own for casual shooters, content creators, and even professionals who need a dependable secondary lens. If you’re looking for an affordable yet capable lens for everyday photography and videography, this is a fantastic option that doesn’t compromise on quality. ... show more

  • Viltrox Makes a Play for the Big Leagues
I ordered this VILTROX 20mm F2.8 FE-Mount for Sony E Mount to try out on my Sony A7 II camera. I rarely use my Sony camera since making the switch to the Fuji GFX system. I sometimes find myself leaving my camera at home because I don't want to carry it. I sold off most of my Sony lenses when I got the GFX, leaving me with nothing but long tele lenses for the Sony. I decided to give this Viltrox lens a try. I've always been hesitant to try lenses from what seem to be "second tier" third party lens manufacturers. The only Viltrox items I've ever owned have been lens adapters, so it really was a leap of faith to pull the trigger on this lens. Given the low cost, though, it seemed worth the gamble. The lens is lighter than air. Build quality is not great, but the lens should hold up if you don't subject it to torture. The lens comes with a hood and a bag. The bag offers little in the way of protection. The hood is quite flimsy and has a bit of play when mounted to the lens. It is reversible to take up less space when the lens is stored, but honestly this thing is so tiny that will rarely be an issue. In an inexplicable design decision, Viltrox chose not to fit this lens with an AF/MF switch. That's an annoyance if you want to shoot MF and need to enter Sony's labrynthine menu system to turn AF off. Shot wide open, sharpness is fine at the center but falls off pretty rapidly. Images shot wide open have corners that can only be described as "mushy." Stopping down results in pretty quick improvement. Everything but the corners is acceptably sharp by f4.0 and even the corners start looking better by f5.6. Autofocus works well, with generally snappy and accurate results. The lens will focus down to 19cm but the maximum magnification is about 1:6. Abberations are fairly well-controlled and easily corrected in Lightroom. Would I use this lens for critical work? No. Are there alternatives? There is the Tamron (which I had for a few months.) The Tamron offers similar optical performance with a better magnification of 1:2. If that is important to you, the Tamron is probably a better choice. The Tamron, though, is half again as expensive as the Viltrox. There is the Sony f1.8 G lens. Optical performance for the Sony is reportedly excellent, and it offers a larger aperture. It is also 6 times the cost of this Viltrox. So what's my verdict? I'm keeping this lens. The performance is good enough for most of what I shoot when I'm in casual mode. It adds virtually no weight to my camera and is small enough to shove into a large pocket. It comes in at a price point that can't be beat. If you have needs that are similar to mine, you'll be happy with this lens. If you're a newer photographer and want to try wide angle, you'll love this lens. If you're a student with a limited budget, you'll love this lens. ... show more

  • Very Good for Low Light and Portraits, But Focusing Isn't As Good
*: 56mm F1.7
The media could not be loaded. This is quite a surprising lens. It's been optimized for it's best sharpness at the widest apertures. It's agreeably sharp even into the corners of the image at f/1.7 and reaches maximum sharpness at f/2.8. F/4 is about the same but I can already see some reduction in sharpness at f/5.6. After that it continues downhill. The Achilles heel of the Viltrox 56mm is focusing. On my oldest Sony camera, a Nex-7 that still works well, I could rarely get focus at all. If you have an older APS-C Sony camera you'll want a good return policy from your seller just in case. But on my A7R IV it did much better. But it wouldn't be my choice for video work or action stills. It's not weather sealed and didn't come with an end cap, just one for the front of the lens. No switches either. It does have a USB port for updates. Super light and agreeably small, it's at its best for low light shooting and portraiture. Sharpness and contrast are very good for this price. Focusing could be a lot better overall, especially for older cameras, but with an 84mm full frame equivalent it should make for a satisfactory and inexpensive portrait lens. ... show more
