    • I bought this lens twice, and both times it arrived faulty
I've been looking for an 85mm f/1.4 lens for portrait work and spent days researching the best option between SIRUI, Viltrox, and Sony. I eventually decided on the Viltrox -- I own multiple Viltrox lenses (14mm f/4, 28mm f/4.5 & 40mm f/2 -- all budget options) and have been very happy with the combination of performance and affordability. In fact, I was so impressed that I wanted to give one of their higher-dollar lenses a shot. Well, both lenses have shown up making a very concerning clunking noise when you turn the lens to either side, and with the aperture blades unable to move between f/2.8 and f/22. Essentially I could stop down between f/1.4 & f/2.8m but the aperture would not close any further. I'm unsure of the cause. Perhaps a fault in the manufacturing? Packaging seems sturdy enough to handle some tossing around by mail carriers/delivery people, but both lenses had the exact same issue. As a result, I've sent both lenses back and moved on the SIRUI lens as my 85mm option. Sorry Viltrox, maybe the issue will be addressed by the time they release a Mk II? ... show more

OMG this is my fav lens. I have been a pro for over 12 yrs. This lens is so track sharp, focused super fast. It is light enough to carry with you all day. It feels well built. The price point is fantastic, I actually researched it and this lens specs are extremely close to the 85 GM. I just wish Viltrox had zoom lenses. I also have the 50mm and it is just as gorgeous. ... show more

    • Punches above its weight. Great value.
Love it. My clients love the photos I take with this lens. I get lots of oohs and aahs. Photos are sharp and bokeh is dreamy. Build quality is excellent and it just feels premium in the hand. I pair it with a Sony A7RV. The privacy of my clients prevents me from sharing some photo samples but trust me... they're nice!     • DOA. Weather sealing ring was protruding to far.
The weather sealing ring was protruding to far preventing the contacts from communicating with the camera. I tried on three different Sony cameras I own. I had several emails with Viltrox but they only gave me the option to return it to Amazon. For this reason I was not able to get the sale price available in the big sale (over $100 off). I tried to get Amazon to replace it at the same price, but they would not. I have never reordered the lens. ... show more
