  • A functional player for the entry level vinyl audiophile
Color: Black Style: Record Player
I bought this player for my 15 year old daughter since she's "into" the vinyl scene. (her words) I didn't want an expensive high end player for a teenager who may get bored of it within a year. The box it came in was severely damaged. Suprisingly, the player itself was fine. Since it closes like a briefcase, the parts inside were well protected and the hard case was able to withstand whatever caused the damage to the box. The case wasn't even scratched!! This earned it an extra star for the durability. It's important to note that this is an ENTRY level player. As such, the turntable is not the best or most solid. In fact the turntable is plastic and floats slightly above the lower part of the player. This floating may give the initial impression that it is broken when it is not. The table will NOT turn immediately when the player is turned on... it waits for the arm to be positioned over the record and then it starts turning. So don't worry when nothing happens after the switch is turned on. Speaking of the arm. It has a little piece that slides over it to lock it down when not in use, so be sure to "unlock" the arm before trying to move it. Also there is a small lever that raises the arm. You need to press the lever BEFORE positioning the arm over the record and press it again when moving it back to rest position. Do not force the arm down onto the record. The arm will softly descend on its own. I thought this was a nice feature, even though I don't remember having it on my "old time" record players back in the '80s. (Damn I'm old now LoL...) The player does have a three way speed switch to play at 33, 45, and 78 RPMs. The switch is small and cheap, and the speed settings aren't easily visible on the player, but again it was functional. There is a red LED just above the power switch. On my player this is VERY bright. So bright that it irritates the eyes. A bit of black electrical tape solved this issue. I give this product 3 stars as it is a very functional player for the entry level audiophile. The sound is good, though not "GREAT". It does have connections for external speakers and connecting those may improve the sound, but I have not tried it since I don't have extra speakers laying around. My daughter thinks its the best thing ever and that's what counts. As stated above it gets an extra 4th star for durability when closed. Hope this review helps you out. ... show more

  • Nice portable vinyl player
Color: Black Style: Record Player
So, the Victrola Journey supports 33, 44 and 78 rpm records which is a primary purchase driver for me since I still have a collection of 78's. Speed is controlled by a simple selector switch and there's another switch to select Auto Off at the end of the record. The player itself comes with an extra needle (and spares are available direct from Victrola) and a 5v1A power adapter, which also means you can use a USB charger (with the proper cord; mini-jack) for power on the road. It's well built, lightweight and the platter/tone arm assembly float separately from the case. My particular unit had been sitting in the warehouse for over a year (according to its manufacture date) and one of the stickers on the back was peeling off. The Blue Tooth was easy to connect and the sound was mid-90's medium size boombox quality. Closing the lid (which you can't do when playing records) adds bass to the sound without penalty. The player also has a line out (L&R RCA jacks) for connecting to an amp or other equipment and a headphone jack. What cost the review 1 star is there's no storage for the power adapter. How hard would it have been to make a spot inside the case for it? Having it outside is asking for it to be lost. ... show more

  • Nostalgia Supreme
Color: Brown Style: Record Player
Let's get the important perspective part out of the way. So, y'know, you know where this is coming from. First, I'm not a vinyl fan (junkie, snob, nut) in that I do like digital music better. To me, just better. Not arguing. Just sayin'. I also do not know anything about modern turntables, or sound systems, or what-not. Complete noob and enjoy my ignorance in this case because my brain is already full. Thus, I need music constantly to maintain sanity. Life should have a soundtrack. But... There is something wonderful (and, okay granted, a bit magical) about listening to a record that's been mastered for that purpose on a turntable like the Victrola Vintage. A lot of indie/alt bands do it, and this Victora brings back those childhood memories of listening to "records" over and over until you wore grooves in them because you couldn't afford a new needle. Yeah, we're talking the 80s, a paper route for income, and I'm dating myself. The sound quality is quite good for the tiny speakers included. It's not great, mind you. It's not even wicked good. It is good, though, and totally radical dude. It surpassed my expectations, and I was surprised that the little speakers could handle loud. Not blow your face off loud, but loud enough to tick off the neighbors, so it's sufficient (if you don't like your neighbors, that is... ahem...) or play well in a room full of people at a small party as background music. It pops up a notch or ten when you add a tube amp and a good set of studio monitors. But let's face it, that defeats the purpose. I didn't test the Bluetooth feature. Why would you need Bluetooth on a record player? Um, because everything is better with Bluetooth, of course. You don't need it, you won't use it, but there it is. So, good. (Okay, this unit is supposed to be portable, but I prefer to think of it as storable. But let's pretend you're out and about in the wild and all you have is your cell, a power source(?), and your Victrola. You want to play some tunes but phones suck at that. There ya go: Bluetooth.) It plays 33s, 45s, and 78s. It's easy to store and carry around. The needle cartridges are easy to get. It has a headphone jack and RCA jacks out. It sounds good as is. Everything you need to enjoy music old-school style. Mainly, though, the Victrola Vintage Portable Suitcase Record Player is perfect for putting on a nice chunk of vinyl in the background and letting the nostalgia wash over you as you work or just relax with a nice glass of wine. In short, I love it. If you just want something to play vinyl on occasionally and want your own personal way-back machine, I don't see how you can go wrong here. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. Fine nostalgic fun! ... show more

  • Great record player
Color: Brown Style: Record Player
Let’s be honest, a record player can’t capture high quality sound. So don’t expect amazing sound. This little guy works great as my gen Z daughter has decided she loves records… Just want to note, it didn’t come with the adapter for 45s but I doubt she will ever play those. If so, I might have to cut one out of wood with a hole saw. ... show more
