While in high school I used VF SD1s for almost all of my symphonic and concert band playing. After a 15 year break I was needing new sticks before going to my first rehearsal with a community symphonic band. After adding a pair of SD1s to my shopping cart I saw the ad for these Ted Atkatz Signature sticks and added them as well. After a full season practicing and performing I must say that my SD1s look practically brand new because I only used them for the random cymbal crashes when the crash cymbal player was 'running behind' or for the cowbell/temple blocks. The Ted Atkatz sticks are now the first sticks I pull from my bag and the last I put away. Dynamically these sticks are controllable from PP to FFF (if I'm playing articulate PPP or PP for a long period I switch to Tim Genis Leggiero). Their durability is good, handling rimshots like a pro. My only complaint is my fellow percussionist have grabbed them out of my pocket when they have 'misplaced' their sticks and are reluctant to give them back. Though I'm not concerned with them breaking I am purchasing a second pair to keep in my stick back, just in case. ... show more

A great feeling stick with more weight towards the back for sensitivity when needed, despite the size of the stick itself (somewhere between an old 1S or 2S, for those familiar with rare stick sizes of the past). Obviously an excellent snare stick for all around use, and I've even used it on set (as Atkatz himself has) for tom heavy passages, and it actually rides well. ... show more

I'm 22 and a percussionist with 10+ years of experience. If you're serious about the sticks you buy, be careful with these ones. I write this review 100% honestly and in no way am trying to spite the company, but I do think it's important enough to let y'all considering purchasing this product know that it is not a stick that is made by Vic Firth. It is in fact a copy. You can tell by the font on the stick shown in this picture. Real Vic Firth sticks have a red dot on the "i" letters in V(i)c F(i)rth and also an american flag on the stick, which this is not present on this one. Font also just looks a little bit weird if you compare it to other VF sticks. Asked my buddy who owns legitimate Atkatz sticks and you can see the difference (real ones on the blue fabric picture). I did play with them on a snare pad for a little bit, and the actual quality of the stick didn't feel horrible, but they definitely weren't even close to being pitch matched (meaning if I played with one stick in my right hand, and then tried playing with the alternate stick but in the same hand, it produced a different sound). Again, please reconsider and go to a legitimate online retailer for percussion/music products. Not knocking this company but make sure if you want the right sticks you shop elsewhere. If you truly don't care and just want a pair of sticks that works, I'm sure these are alright. Didn't get enough playing time with them though. ... show more
