  • Drumming
As a drummer I love using these daily, though if you are in marching band and playing the snare these probably wonโ€™t be your go to.

  • And The Gods Created a Stick.....
I currently play a customized Yamaha DTX electronic kit, with acoustic Saluda cymbals. I need a stick that is light enough to avoid damaging my electric gear, yet tough enough to slam the bell of a heavy, 24" ride hard enough to cut through metal guitars without shattering into toothpicks. The SD1 is the perfect stick to suit these needs. I have big hands, so the larger diameter eases the fatigue on my hands and wrists (recurring bouts of CTS since my freshman year of high school in 1983) making extended gigs much more bearable. The stubby, round tip gives a great ping on the ride, and a smooth feel to shuffling on hats and snare. The diameter where stick meets tip is what first drew me to try these. Through the years, I have snapped enough 2B, 5A, 7B, etc... tips to heat a home through a Wisconsin winter. This gives the tip a much stronger foundation, which for me, translates to a more solid, playable link to whatever I'm striking. In over 10 years of playing these sticks exclusively, I have only broken 1 stick. Not for lack of exposing them to extreme peril on a daily basis, but because they are simply that rugged. I generally replace them when they get a little heavy after a few months of absorbing sweat and oil from my hands. Bottom line: if you need a mix of finesse/strength/durability, these are the sticks you're looking for. ... show more

  • Best sticks for a practice pad
Vic Firth = high quality. I have been using them for over 30 years and they are the best balanced and well made sticks you can use. I bought these sticks specifically for practicing rudiments on a drum pad. I use a lighter stick when I play gigs on my drum set. These are a little heavier and help build speed for when I use my lighter sticks on the drum set. These sticks are high quality. No wobble when you roll them to test. No problems with the wood grain. They feel good and bounce off the pad very well. These sticks are perfect for a drum pad and playing on drum set. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Another excellent pair of sticks from the Corpsmaster series! You should definitely own a pair of these.
This was another pair of sticks I picked up on my "march" (metaphorically, haha) to build up a collection of Corpsmaster series drum sticks. I'm not gonna lie, what initially got me to try these out at a store was the fact they are drum-line white. After picking them up though, you immediately notice two things: They have a very small-round bead kind of tip. They are extremely light for their length and thickness. However, I would argue these would be quite the asset to your collection of drum sticks because of just that. I switch it up and practice on my drum pad with these quite frequently because it gives you a different range of motion in your wrists. Despite being a long-style thick drum line style stick, they are as light and bouncy as feathers. Perhaps this helps if you want to practice faster strokes and rudiments, or maybe you are strength building up to using sticks that are very heavy. Either way, I highly recommend these sticks. I tried them out at a local drum store and ending up buying them on Amazon because it was much cheaper. Not that you shouldn't support your local drum store, I buy from them as well. These sticks just happend to be cheaper. ... show more

  • Great Light Weight Stick from a Great Company!!
You can never go wrong with the Vic Firth sticks! This size is perfect for practice pad, concert band and even light drum set work. For heavy metal or hard rock....stick with the 5B sticks! I have found these sticks most enjoyable and fun to use and have used many sizes in almost 40 years of playing all different styles. Not a good size for young hands just starting out at 8 to 12 years old. But once the teen years roll around they will be helpful. Once again...not a good choice for heavy handed rockers....they are maple and not hickory sticks. You can however use them on electronic pads and they should be ok. ... show more
