First important note is that the safety tray does get warm as well (and the surface below was warm too ... so watch your surfaces if you have any concerns at all. I assumed it would and prepared accordingly so as to avoid any issues. It seemed ok when finished but I wouldn't use it on anything you wouldn't want to risk damage to without a protective barrier. I will say that I winged it my first use (who wants to read instructions ... I wanted to use it because I was excited & I had already had to put off using it for a week due to unexpected company) Its pretty easy to figure out and heats up quickly. I had a 12x12 iron on ... So I knew I'd have to overlap during the process. It worked well for someone who was mostly guessing at temp, time & pressure ... I think the hardest part was trying to evenly and correctly place my design on a t shirt ... that felt like a huge chore - lol - I don't know if there's a short cut for that but I need to find out. I put chalk marks and measured 4 times and still felt uneasy about placement. Thank goodness placing the heat press on and holding for a reasonable time it all turned out well. Heat Press is light and thin (the reason I chose it in case I decide to take it traveling with me) Overall very pleased with this (and it was a reasonably priced option to buying the "bug brand" is did opt for the extended warranty since some reviews complain that they had issues after so many uses. And while I think I read there's a year warranty, I like the assurance that I won't have to buy another next year if it stops working ... a deal for less than 10 dollars in my eyes. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I tried my luck with this, knowing their larger clamshell presses are great. But unfortunately this is not the same quality. I received my first one, and it had some dents in the plastic and some scratches and markings on the heat plate that made me think it could have been used or dropped/mishandled but I got it up and running to test it out. After noticing that the heating was way off I went ahead and ordered a replacement, but unfortunately it has arrived and it has the same issues (and more because the new one smells like wire fire when being used..). Here's what I found and attached are videos as well. The dial (as many others mention is aweful to use and there are no directions on how to use it but with some fiddling you can figure it out, but that was the least of the problems). The heat plate temperature does not match what the dial reads, and the heating on the heatplate itself is VERY uneven. The machine will beep when it's preheated, but using my heat gun to check the temp (which is in working order and usually only 1-2 degrees off/based on my last heat press that worked like a charm before it broke), it is way off - 325 in the dead center and 280-300 around the edges?! Thats upwards of 60 degrees off!! So I let it heat up for another 10 mins and got better results in the center but the uneven heating is still a major issue. The edges only ever got up to about 315 when it should be 345. The center portion that has the better temp is only about 4 inches wide. So basically you can only have a design aprox 4 inches wide or the outer parts won't adhere properly. I decided to do a test shirt anyways (standard htv vinyl and gildan 100% white tshirt). As suspected the outer edges of my design did not adhere properly and I had to make another pass on the edges, but because of the uneven heat plate you have to do it in sections. Which even with teflon sheets started to yellow the shirt. Could you break it down in to smaller sections from the get-go, sure i guess, but you still are over heating the vinyl that gets over lapped... . I decided to try another test shirt with a higher temp than what the vinyl calls for and I got slightly better results but outside of that center 4 inches still did not adhere as well due to the uneven temp/lower temp. I will note the longer the heat press sits, the better the heat distribution, but 2 of the corners are still very very off, and then the center overheats (see 2nd video, shows center at 360 when dial is 345, but edges finally got up higher to 315 and 330 but still never 345). So why buy a 12 inch heat plate when it will only the middle 4-5 inches works properly.....I'm so disappointed as I had high hopes. If you're just making them for yourself, kids, family hobby style then this could be fine...if you have a heat gun and can adjust your setting accordingly like I did. But if you sell your shirts or give as gifts this probably won't work so well. In addition it would be impossible to use with infusible ink (you cannot move anything when pressing, and the colors of infusible ink are ruled by temperature so the outer edges of your designs will be lighter in color because the lower heat won't pull all the ink out). It may also be extremely hard to use with other substrates / materials because some require temps like 400 that even tho the dial reads 400 the heat plate may not actually reach that temp... ... show more

I have used full size heat presses and the quality of this, is easy to store, press is OUTSTANDING! The heat is even across the press, temp gage is easy to use and with a little of your body weight you get a perfect press!
