I did not pay much attention to the strap vs cable as I would of gone with a strap version but am happy with the product, works as described and the gears, etc. seem to be of acceptable+ quality.

Good design, dual ratio, the only issue I have with it is the way they choose to anchor the end of the ⅜ cable. It can easily be rerouted (they threaded it backwards.) or anchored with a swedgged ball end. Removable crank handle to switch between the 4:1 to 8:1.

I mounted this on my trailer to help bring my small boat on since I have a bad back. I guess my disillusionment cave from how much cable actually reels per turn. It take forever to get my boat on. I will try this spring to attach a drill to the handle so I don't wear my shoulder out turning it!

Good value if you are willing to correct manufacturing flaws. The tolerance of fitting the gear train is horrible. the gears are welded to shafts, but the alignment during manufacturing is so poor the middle gear is almost un-meshing with the mating gear. A .050 more wobble would result in failure and possible injury. The removable crank is a good feature. Overall the steel is heavy duty, but the design tolerance is too sloppy, and so typical of the china product. I made it work for me. Update after 2 weeks of use. I have a 1000 lb lift load. The latching mechanism broke. The secondary gear set broke a tooth, lucky it jammed up the mechanism so the load did not fall. The metal used is very soft and the gears deform. This product is a safety hazard. I am unable to return as it is outside the 30 day window.
