  • Very nice heavy duty laminator for the money.
I bought this to put photosensitive film onto circuit boards. This machine efforletssly does the job. I even tried this as an actual laminator if you can immagine that hehe. I took it apart because - reasons... This thing is a tank. Well made. I've used ( and taken apart ) far more expensive laminators and well, in different ways, they were superior but not by that much. To me, the coolest thing is that these are very inexpensive compared the the commercial units and these aren't all that far behind a basic commercial unit. This is actually the second one I've bought. The first was a different brand, but all the mechanical parts totally interchange with each-other. The first one lasted for a few years with lots of abuse and in fact would still run had I not cut one of the rollers with a sharp piece of copper. As they are inexpensive, I can't speak to how easy or hard it is to get parts but the first one I had I could not seem to buy a new roller for it. It was just cheaper to buy this one in hopes that it was indeed the same unit under a different brand. It is! No more expensive one for me, I'll just get these from now on. Pros: Cheap Built like a tank. Applies good and even pressure across the rollers. Never had even a hint that it was struggling, even with thick PCB's going through it. Temperature control is handy. Cons: Kind of heavy. A bit stinky when hot for a couple hours when brand new. Fine now though. Temperature control is inaccurate. At least it's consistent which is always a must. ... show more

  • Big chonker
I bought this specifically because of its ability to handle thick laminate sheet, thicker than 0.5mm. I'm using 0.7mm sheets for laminating badges which need to be worn on the body and be able to take a beating without getting folded or damaged or anything. The laminator is up to the task. It takes a minute to heat up and cool down but it is more than capable of handling everything I put through it. I like that it has a reverse direction toggle switch, it makes it easy for me to partially use a laminate sheet by just holding some scrap pieces of laminate sheet together and laminating 1/4" or so along one edge, fusing them into a single partial piece that i can use as i would any full size piece for something suitably small. Recommend experimenting with different temperatures for using sheets of different thickness. I tend to run it a little on the hot side, with a target temp of 180C for the 0.7mm sheets im using. Thinner sheets will need a lower temperature, or you will risk completely melting them. ... show more

  • Great and very impressed
Bought for PCB prototype use. Quite heavy much more than I thought. Temp control within 10C quiet in operation. Easily accepts a double clad PCB and transfer material. Curiosity being in my nature I had to crack it open. Impressive to say the least. Just about all the inexpensive machines have nylon or plastic gears. Not this one Steel gears and with set screws, not knurled shafts. I usually don't give Chinese stuff any glowing praise but this one deserves it. ... show more

  • Working so far
I bought this in part because all the inexpensive name brand (e.g. Scotch) laminators no longer have guides; this is somehow reserved for high-end models. This doesn't have guides either, but at least it is wide enough that alignment isn't super critical for letter-size paper. It's even wide enough for 11x17 with imperfect alignment. It heats up a bit faster than my old, dead Scotch laminator. As others have noted, on the unit I received, there is no heat warning sticker on the (removable) lid over the rollers as pictured, and it gets hot enough to burn. This is basically like a conveyor toaster with heating elements that heat up two of the four rollers instead of toast, and the cover is immediately above the top heating element. So of course it gets hot. The meter doesn't display the actual temperature; it displays the temperature set by the knob, which is also labeled. The documentation says to keep it running with heat turned off to cool down until it reaches 80° (presumably C). However, even if the meter displayed actual temperature, it wouldn't help much, because the meter reads down only to 100°C — there's no way to know when it's really cool enough. So, run it for a while? Five minutes? Ten? Who knows... The documentation is relatively useless. In particular, it has inconsistent suggestions for heat settings for different film thicknesses. I found an online reference in °F and converted it to °C: 3 mil: 135°C 5 mil: 140°C 7 mil: 150°C 10 mil: 170°C So far I've tested only 3 mil but it worked fine set to 135°C. Ultimately, knowing all this I would probably buy it again, but I don't have young children who can't be trusted around hot appliances either. ... show more

  • Works great but slow
Works great but a bit slower than the ones I usually purchase for home use is perfect I purchase for a printshop where we offer document lamination as well but the speed is slow.

  • Temp control is useful
I'm laminating high quality photographic prints on heavy matte paper in 5mil lamination pouches to make letter size fridge magnets. The temperature fine tuning allows to find a temperature that laminates perfectly without waviness or milkiness most of the time.

  • Returning...too dangerous
I'm returning this because... 1) The top of the machine gets so hot you could burn yourself. I had the setting on 100 the lowest. 2) In the description pictures it shows a "HOT-Warning" sticker, this machine did not have one. 3) I'm pretty sure I received a "used in very good condition" model even though I chose NEW. My order confirmation shows NEW. It laminates very well, I just can't have my co-workers using something that may burn them when they reach for the end result of their laminated project. I wish it had worked out because the price is pretty good, the machine is sturdy & easy to use. ... show more

  • It's just a real laminator. By real I mean one that will actually laminate.
It's weight just let's you know it's for real, not so.e kind of toy laminator. I bought 2 separate laminator, they smoked and never worked, got replacements, same story. This was finally the solution! Great buy
