  • Don't turn this one down. Need a lathe get it
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. As a woodworker, wood turning is something hes always wanted to do. I read some comments and was very impressed on the size. It was bigger than expected. It has a lot of weight to it. Upon installation the build quality was better than expected He uses this lathe just like he's always used one The ease of use was quite pleasant. The speed is there and it's quite powerful. The stuff that he has turned out is amazing ... show more

  • Weird
Page 27 of the user manual mentions turning the speed control lever. Oh? This is described as having four speeds. The manual, Chart 1, mentions 3400, 2425, 2300, 1715, 1600, 1245, 1100, and 885 RPM. Is it four or is it eight? My lathe came missing a set screw, and this was supposed to lock the angle of the tool rest. I guess I have to buy one. The manual mentions checking the belt tension before use, by loosening the hex bolt that holds the motor. Actually, there are two hex bolts. Page 26, Operation Instructions, says to push the green button ("|") for two seconds to start. No! there is no green button at all. It says to push the red button ("0") to switch off. No, there is no red button either. That makes me wonder about trying to switch it on. This thing weighs around 50 pounds, and its shape makes it very awkward to move around. The user manual is typical, and a little hard to read. Also, the tool rest clamping system does not allow me to move the tool rest close to the workpiece. ... show more

  • Defectively dangerous
I've been woodturning for about 2 years and the machine I had quit working me and my girlfriend decided that as an early Christmas present I would buy this one we don't have much money at the moment. I guess you get what you pay for. I was near the end of making a salt grinder and as I was putting polish the movable centerpoint snapped and sent it into my cheek. Luckily only minor injury sore and swelling. But could have been a lot worse. Hopefully they will make removable centerpoint out of better material ... show more

  • You get what you pay for - UPDATED
VEVOR Benchtop Wood Lathe, 14 in x 40 in - the black model. I should have known better and wasn't expecting much but I did expect it to work for more than 2 days. For some simple long table legs, this looked to be the ticket and had it not quit completely after a few hours, it would have been fine for the job. From the beginning even unloaded, the motor wouldn't spin up without giving it a helping hand to get going but eventually started working. Sometimes it would start up normally, sometimes it struggled and wouldn't start without help, sometimes it would start slow then speed up and sometimes it wouldn't start at all then work again 20 minutes later. It was very inconsistent and very frustrating and I should have returned it immediately but I discarded the box. Finally today after about 4 hours total use over a few days, It was working as expected for 30 minutes after the will it or won't it start up dance then after switching off, completely refused to start at all or even budge. It is now totally dead and I was unable to finish my last leg. The build itself isn't bad, good enough for my needs and I would have been happy if the motor worked as expected every time. I'll also add that the 3 cutting tools that come with it are pretty bad and dulled quickly even in pine but i had purchased a $100 set of good quality tools so wasn't bothered. I have submitted a ticket with Vevor and will return to update this review when things get sorted out. -UPDATE- After a back and forth with Vevor, they are sending out a replacement unit. ... show more

  • Odd size spindle
Purchased this lathe and a vevor chuck adapter to work on a project. I assumed since they were the same brand the mounting would be a standard size. I was wrong of course. The chuck from vevor does not fit this machine, even with the metric to english adapter provided with the chuck. Asked for size of lathe spindle thread on vevor website and was given a bogus diameter that any set of calipers can debunk. Just want to buy the right adapter the first time since the vevor chuck won't fit on the vevor lathe :eyeroll: ... show more

  • I regret wasting my money on this.
Worked great for the first few days. It came slightly bowed at the base but it worked so that was fine. After a couple of days I realized the bend was getting worse. Figured the pressure of tightening the wood was doing it. (Was not overly tightening it) After a few days it quit working. I have used other machines from them and they worked well. Update: They are sending me a new lathe. I’ll update this review in a few weeks. Hopefully the new one does not have the same issues. ... show more
