  • Nice!
I’m no machinist but I do like this machine. I don't do much with this lathe but the work I have done has came out like wanted. It sure is a setup from the smaller one I have.

  • THIS IS A KIT. NOT A READY TO GO LATHE.
I bought this lathe (vevors MX-750) in March of 2022. since then I have had to replace all the belts which are not available so I had to make them. the belt pulleys were not aligned. The motor controller circuit board fried the 3rd time I used it. I had to completely remake the tail stock base, Stevie wonder could have done a better job making the original one. there was not a square part on the tail stock and it was too short. The lathe bed itself needs to be machined square since there is .012in thickness variation. This lathe is an utter disappointment. The only reason I didn't return it is the fact that I could not afford a good one in that size at the time. As a kit it is a great start. as a ready to run lathe it is garbage ... show more

  • Mostly as advertised
After cleaning and oiling, the lathe has proven to be quite strong. The one drawback and the reason for only four stars, is that in the question section, someone asked if it came with a steady rest and follow rest. The answer was yes. In fact it does not come with either. This makes the price seem a bit high as other, comparable lathes at this price point, do come with those. Overall, I am happy with it. Anyone know where I can get those items to fit it? ... show more

  • Get ready to work on it!
Out of the box this lathe is worthless. No accuracy at all. Just a bunch of parts thrown together. You can plug it up and run it if all you want to see is the chuck spin. However... After working on it for a few hours it actually is somewhat ok. I had to dismantle the tail stock and chuck to get them to work right. The chuck would close fairly easy but upon trying to open it I met with much resistance. I totally dismantles it by removing three nuts on the back and it came right off. There are three keepers that hold the square bevel gears in place that need removed then the ring gear can be removed. I had to slam it down on my table onto a rag with a slight bit of force to get the ring gear out. Afterwards I used PTFE based grease on the inside and on the ring gear teeth. I reassembled it and the issue was gone. The tail stock was waaaaay out of alignment. I removed the bottom of it to find some extremely low quality work. There was so much metal shavings inside. I had to do much filing to make it look half way decent. With that done, I ended up placing a brass shim under the back side of the tail stock just below the set screws to align vertically. You will probably have to adjust the nut on the bottom of it to tighten the clamp lever. I had to adjust the set screws on the cross slide and related assembly to remove slack and make it smoother. One thing that should have been done at the factory is install a cover over the cross slide lead screw. Lots of opportunity for metal to get in there. The last thing I had to do is take all the metal gears and polish the inside and file the key ways. The ones that are installed at the factory come off fairly easy but the ones in the tool box would not slide onto the bushing at all. The two shafts that are adjustable and hold the upper gears are hard to adjust without a small wrench which is not included so you will have to find a 5mm or small adjustable to hold them while loosening the nut to remove gears. The chuck jaws are numbered 1 to 3 and are installed in a counter clockwise manner. Once jaw 1 is installed and the first thread of the chuck has caught it, then insert jaw 2 and so forth. Something that should have been included with this lathe is a thread chasing dial. It would be almost impossible to accurately produce threads without this. But it can be done. The last thing I have to add is the manual is so lacking in regards to instructions on how to configure the gears for thread cutting. I have not contacted the mfg. as of this writing to find out why the 74 tooth gear is not in the set as it is referenced in the manual and not in the package. To sum up this review, if you don't know much about machinery, how to maintain a machine, and/or have not ever used a lathe or other machine shop equipment, you are going to have a bad day and experience with this lathe. On the other hand, if you are the opposite of that and like a good challenge then the experience will be rewarding. So far I have accurately center drilled a brass shaft and turned it down fairly easily. Although a live center would be extremely nice. So for the price of the lathe it's about on par. If you want accuracy out of the box you will have to come up with several thousand dollars if not tens of thousands. This little lathe will probably do what I want to do with it and maybe with some additions and modifications it will exceed my expectations. *update* Using grease on the inside of the chuck is a bad idea. I machined a couple aluminum parts and the chips completely clogged the gearing. I could barely operate it. I washed all the grease out and will not reapply. ... show more

  • dont buy changed my rating because no customer support Decent machine, arrived damaged, changed
I have changed my rating from 3 stars to 1 star only because It would not let me change it to 0. after using it for a few months one of the drive belts broke. ok just find a new belt. could not find right size. contacted Vevor about the problem told me they just sell the product don't offer parts someone else will contact me from somewhere else down the line with the solution. Have not heard from anyone except vevor stating Dear customer This is a reminder sent automatically by the system. We haven't heard from you for a long time, so we will mark your ticket(#28258)as solved temporarily. If the issue persists, feel free to reply to this email to get service. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards, VEVOR Customer Care It arrived well packaged however when I uncrated and set it up, I noticed it had some damage to the lathe bed (pictures 1 and 2) the tool post clamping lever was bent and broke soon after setting up (pic 3). check all screws a couple had come loose and I found them inside the crate it took a little searching to find where they came from. I also had to spend some time shimming the tool post holder and tail stock to achieve true center still working on that. All in all, its decent for an entry lever machine. ... show more

  • Good and bad.
It's worth the money but there are some issue. The slide isn't machined very well, it has a .020 taper over the maximum turning length that I cannot force out of it, and customer service doesn't exist. Three months after purchase, the speed control board fried. The mosfets fused closed which caused the lathe to run beyond max rpm all the time. I contacted amazon CS who contacted the seller to no avail. I never heard from the seller so I just gave up and built my own speed controller. If you aren't a tinkerer I wouldn't recommend buying it. If you like improving things yourself then this is a perfect starter lathe. ... show more

  • Very bad quality and no customer support for replacement parts.
This lathe is not for beginners. If you do not understand tool theory or how to set up and fine tune a machine tool then do not buy this lathe. It requires extensive knowledge of machine shop experience to get it running good. You are on your own because the quality of workmanship is very low and there is no technical customer support. Not even for replacement parts. I'm a retired journeyman machinist of 37 years and bought this for light hobby projects that required turning work. ... show more
