After hours of research, I came across this product under the guise of a sunscreen that would not leave my face red, itchy, and swollen. I decided to take the risk and I'm glad to have done so. The Vanicream Sunscreen has now become a staple in my morning routine, allowing me to protect my skin and avoid any potential allergens since it has very straightforward ingredients. No irritation, not even during the first week of adding it into my skin routine; moreover, I haven't had an allergic reaction. Of course, as with many mineral sunscreens, there is a white cast. I personally don't have a problem with it since I'm quite pale, it only evens out my skin-tone and leaves my skin with a glow. Finding products that work with someone's is a tricky process, so your results might be different. I was quite excited when I saw that Vanicream had a mineral sunscreen that came with a decent amount of product for a good price. Overall, I do like the product, but I will say that this does have a white cast and also somewhat of a weird smell - kind-of like paint, but it goes away after a few minutes. It's frustrating because I really wanted to love it since it doesn't pill and seems to get along well with my other products that I put on before this. It also doesn't sting or irritate my eyes when I put it around my eye area. It's gentle on the skin (I haven't noticed any irritation from wearing this) and is quite hydrating as well - it doesn't make my skin feel dry like some other mineral sunscreens do. It's also water/sweat resistant for ~80 minutes so can be worn while outside working/exercising. It does have a white cast so I generally don't wear this if I'm going out somewhere and only really wear around the house/exercising outside. I have been able to blend it so it's not quite as noticeable (I have quite fair skin) but for my melanin-rich beauties out there if you have more medium/dark/deep skin tones this will definitely give you a noticeable white cast. ... show more

I ordered this sunscreen because I saw people online talk about how it is rather good for those with sensitive skin and/or eczema, which I have. I really needed a eczema friendly sunscreen because I have PIH from scratching my upper body and other sunscreens I tried irritated or burned my patches. However, I was a bit skeptical since there were reviews saying things like there were "bad batches" or it's "just water" not sunscreen. The directions explicitly state to "shake well before use", so I did that the first couple days I used the sunscreen and it came out as a thick white sunscreen. However, I forgot to do it one day and noticed it was, as other reviews had mentioned, like water. After a few shakes, it was back to its normal consistency. Please learn to read what's printed on packaging and sunscreen before leaving a hasty bad review and returning the product. Besides that, this sunscreen does what it's supposed to and does not bother my eczema at all. I think that putting it on top of my moisturizing routine locks everything in and my skin tends to remain hydrated, getting significantly less itchy and dry throughout the day compared to before (when I didn't use a sunscreen). I have to agree with the reviews that say it is a thick formula, which makes it harder to spread around though doable. Also, it leaves a crazy white cast, so I wouldn't recommend this for your face, only on your body. I don't mind the white cast because I have PIH areas and it lightens them a bit. ... show more

I couldn’t find any other sunscreen for my skin type & my dermatologist recommended this. I couldn’t find this anywhere else & I just so happened to find it here. Thank God because it was about a week or 2 before I was going out of town. It came just in time, the day before I was leaving. It helped me a lot & I didn’t get burned. Ordered this sunscreen after seeing it on a list of “best sunscreen for brown skin”. Lol. Someone writing that list clearly lied bc this definitely leaves a white cast. The formula itself is very light and easy to spread, not chunky and pasty like most mineral sunblocks. Minimal odor as well. I’ll keep it for the winter months while I’m a bit fairer ... show more

I am really disappointed. I have been looking for a good mineral sunscreen that doesn't have a lot of added chemicals. I like the Vanicream face wash so had high hopes for this. My only complaint is the smell. It has a very strange plastic smell that I can't get past. I was ok with the thickness and slight white cast. But the smell I can't deal with. ... show more

    • Prices Have Doubled
I have been using VaniCream products and sunscreens for over a decade as I have family members with sensitive skin. I think VanCream products are great quality, however the sunscreen price is double what I paid a year ago. You don't notice it by looking at just the price, but the product size has gone from 4 oz to 3oz, so the price per ounce has increased from $3.45 to $6.60 in one year. I understand prices everywhere have gone up, but doubling the prices seems hard to justify. ... show more
