The Vellux orginal is the only blanket I use. It's sturdy but soft and lightweight but warm. It feels so good that I don't even use a topsheet under it. I love the way it feels against my skin. And, the real bonus is that the more you wash it the softer it gets. My only complaint is that it is not offered in WHITE. I bought two of these for the beds in my guest bedroom. My guests said they were luxurious and nice and warm without being too heavy. Love the color as well. It's a great neutral no matter what else I do with the room. They are very soft and washed very well.

Ever since my mother first bought one of these for us decades ago I have loved these blankets like no other. They're thick without being heavy and very warming in layers with a duvet over them. I don't know why people are mentioning a smell. There is no smell. But then the first thing I do with these is wash and dry them. On that first wash and dry there's a bit of fluff that comes off in the dryer filter, and presumably whatever smells people are mentioning. After that they're soft, and even though I generally live a life of luxury in most things around me, I really can't stand heavy blankets or things feeling weighted down on my feet while in bed, and these are my favorite. Absolutely perfect. I would have preferred plain white, but I'll settle for Ivory since they don't seem to make it. From years of experience I know these will last for years. I replaced an older one in the green color because I prefer more neutral colors, but that blanket is still going. When you wash and dry it and fold it it's fairly thick and makes a fantastic place (when folded) for the cat to sleep in comfort. He loves it, and the blanket isn't so precious or expensive that I can't take it out in the garden and put it on my teak bench so he can lay on it outside. He loves it there too. Highly recommended, and like all things manufactured, I would definitely encourage anyone to wash and dry before using to remove any trace of chemicals (and odor) involved in the production process. ... show more

Love these for lightness and warmth. Washes so well. This is third one I've owned over the years. Just wish this one wasn't so square. I ordered F/Q like always. Still, this one overhangs my bed too far no matter which way I apply it. Stitched a center of one foot and head border so I can at least, center it. It does annoy me to fold one side up, otherwise it shows below my quilt edge when making my bed. ... show more

I just received my king size Navy Blue Vellux Blanket today and I am like other customers! The blanket stuck to it's self right out of the package as if it was Velcro! I washed it in cool water and put it through the dryer on gentle and low heat. I was surprised when I cleaned the dryer filter! There was not much lint in the filter like I thought there would be... that was a shocker. It is soft but feels like it has foam rubber inside of it. It is quite heavy and stiff even though I have washed and dried it once! I hope it softens up more and gets more limp and not so stiff as if it is made of foam rubber!!! I have put it on my bed so I am going to keep it and give it a try! It seems everything you buy these days is from China and just a "Roll of the Dice!" I am editing this two days later: I have slept under this blanket for two nights and the very first night, even though I had washed and dried this blanket right out of the package, this blanket has an odd chemical-rubber smell. So for that reason I am leaving the bedspread off of it for several days to let that dissipate. I always have my sheet come up and over the top of the blanket so my body does not touch the blanket. I wash my sheets weekly but not my blankets. But even though I had the sheet up and over the top about ten inches I could still smell a chemical-rubber smell. I will say this... it is nice and warm on cold mornings here in the mountains. And that is what I was looking for... a med thin blanket. ... show more
