Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent energy efficiency, operation
Size: 3,200 Sq.Ft Color: White
The Vellgoo 3200 sq. ft. dehumdifier is a very well designed and constructed product. This is the fourth dehumidifier purchased over the past 35 years. We’ve owned a different brand each time: some better, some worse. One lasted 15 years, one lasted 3 years. I expect this one to last quite a while. We purhcased this Vellgoo model because of its EnergyStar Most Efficient rating, its Consumer Reports expected reliability rating, and other owner reviews found on Amazon indicating its excellent customer service in handling malfunctioning or failing units (which also seem to be rare). We are very pleased with our purchase. Here’s why. The Vellgoo is the quietest dehumdifier we’ve ever owned. It is set up in a 144 sq. ft. storage room within a damp 750 sq. ft. basement, with two large closets. The storage room door generally remains open to allow for dehumidification of the larger basement space. We also occasionally leave the closet doors ajar for the same reason. All dehumdiifers must dispose of the water pulled out of the air. One could simply empty the self-contained bucket, but I don’t consider that a viable option with this particular dehumidifier model. Compared to other dehumdifiers we’ve owned, this bucket is incredibly small to make that a viable option. In my experience, I’d be emptying the bucket several times/day. Instead, we connected the included clear flexible tubing (referred to as a “hose” in description) to an existing condensate pump. (Condensate pumps automatically activate a pump to remove liquid up and out to a higher level drain. Alternatively, that tube can be directed to a floor drain, if you have one. We do not.) The dehumidifier’s design allows one to simply slip the tube through an opening on one side and onto a fitting. It sealed perfectly without leaking and took just a minute to install. Not having to empty the bucket daily (or more frequently) is a tremendous advantage for any dehumidifier. If you are unable to use a floor drain or a condensate pump, I would not recommend this particular model for this reason. Having said that, it is the only limitation I found in this model. During this hot and humid June, the Vellgoo quickly brought the humidity from 65% down to a consistent 45% in both the storage room and the larger basement overall. (I measured relative humdity in different areas with a separate digital humidistat.) It drains flawlessly into our condensate pump without leaks or drips. Occasionally, the dehumidifer goes into a self-defrosting cycle to remove ice buildup; that cycle is visually indicated by a code on the digital display. When defrosting, it exhausts cools air; when dehumidifying, it exhausts warm air. Self-defrosting is a major improvement from other dehumidifiers I’ve owned, which continually try to dehumidify, even though the coils and cooling fins are literally caked with ice. When I’ve noticed ice buildup on other units, I’d shut it off and simply wait a day or two for the ice to melt away. Inefficient to say the least. Continual operation with ice buildup is a likely cause of eventual failure of those units. Whatever dehumidifier you purchase, I highly recommend the “self-defrosting” feature. Overall, I believe that the exhuast heat increases our basement temperature a bit, which is to be expected. It’s such a cool room, however, that a little exhaust heat is actually welcomed in our basement. Your situation may be different, of course. The only negative I’ve encountered after several weeks of use is the digital display; it is quite dim requiring me to stoop a bit to check it closely, but this is a minor inconvenience. I don’t really need to check the display very frequently. As others have noted, it comes with a 1 year warranty. If you register your purchase online with Vellgoo, they add a free additional year to the warranty. That’s a plus, as any sophsiticated appliance may occasionally fail before its time. Should that happen, I’m confident that Vellgoo would make good on it. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this appliance purchase, and highly recommend this Vellgoo model. ... show more

  • Best Unit + Excellent Customer Service
Size: 4,500 Sq.Ft Color: White
I did not realize I need a dehumidifier in northern California until I saw some mold appeared on the wall. I bought three thermometers and placed them in the rooms where molds coming out. During the night, the humidity went up 10%-15% in my bedroom and I can see tiny water drops on the lower end of window glass. One side of the dry wall seems damped when I touched. My wife and I have replaced the roof, sealed all the windows from outside. Although these improves a lot but problem still exists. We've tried to open the windows as long as possible but this is not that efficient to remove the moisture out of some of the rooms. Restroom is OK because we turned on the exhaust fan after showers. So we decided to by a dehumidifier. We 've consider the one that Costco sales also other brands that listed in energystar.gov. We are also thinking to install one that can directly have connected to our central A/C but it costs too much. Besides, we need one that uses less energy due to the unreasonable high electrical bill from PG&E. Not like M**** and other brands, it uses only half of the power - around 280 watts/h with similar capability. We got the unit in March to tried it out. Within less than 30 minibuses, my small bedroom can be dry as low as 40-45% RH from 70% with door closed. Even the walls are dried. So far, I have not seen any mold coming back yet in. except too dry make my nose feel uncomfortable. One issue is that the unit shows flashing "E1" after turn on a while. Fortunately, I emailed to customer service, Mina replied almost right away. Just in two emails, I got a placement in less a week. This unit it not wireless controllable but I can setup a timer, combine with humidity setting. or simply click the the comfort button. for example, When I set to 55%, the unit will automatelly turn on at about 59% and stopped at 53%. after fan on for a while, it completed stopped and into the idle mode to keep tracking the humidity changes. Although the exhaust air temperature may be 10 F higher when compress is on but it blows a cooler air out after it goes to fan only mode. Pros - Excellent power consumption - kill-a-watt shows in full speed of fan: fully run (about) 280W, fan only: 35W. idle: <1W (with display on, not off) - Excellent customer service - Good Noise level - about 50db measured in 3ft (1m) away in full fan speed - looks better - ready to use (with wheel installed) - please remove the adapter inside the water bucket Cons - The display is kind of dimmed, it hard to see when light is too bright. - The display is not changed when E1 is flashing - That will be better If it can show other info when we operate the unit - and we know it still OK like manual stated. Highly recommend from a happy customer. ... show more
