  • It would be nice if instructions were clearer, but it's pretty good anyway.
Color: V16.00.017
I took away only one star because the instructions are poorly written, But given that there is also a video that you can watch to figure it out, I do think it is deserving of at least 4 stars. You can tell, even though they may not speak the same language, that they are trying to provide a good service. I was able to get the software going on my laptop. I will try to amend their instructions to be clearer. On step 4, if the driver installs correctly, you probably don't have to worry about this step. I probably spent too much time on this step... I think windows had installed the correct driver for me automatically and all was good to go, but I uninstalled it and followed the video to make sure. I probably didn't need to do that. If your driver installs correctly, in device manager under "Ports (COM & LPT)" you will see "USB Serial Port (COM [your COM number, mine was 5])" and under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" you will see "USB Serial Converter". If you see those, I believe your driver is installed correctly, and you should proceed to the next steps. Under "Other devices" you may see "M-VCI". If you see this, the driver is not installed; it shows this part of the setup procedure in the video around 7:09 so you can follow along on how to do that. In fact, the entire setup process is shown in the video if you have a question on anything. You can test that I'm right by unplugging your device and seeing that device manager updates to remove the entries I mentioned, and that it adds them back when you plug back in. On step 5, it says "[...] please click Cancel directly; select area and VIM as 1.4.8 and close." What you need to do here is in the Techstream software click "setup" then click "VIM select", look for "Interface setup:" and click the drop down. At this point, if you were following the steps, then you have the option for "MVCI Autokent-X64 - 1.4.8" for the 64 bit version windows. Click that and click "OK". That will complete step 5. On step 6, you need to copy the correct patch shortcut to your desktop, either the 32 or 64 bit version, depending on your system. This is how you will launch the software and connect to your vehicle. There is one hang-up here that is not mentioned in the instructions. Apparently, there is a new version of Techstream available, so a dialogue box opens when you click the patch. It says "update now" or "update later". Don't make the mistake I did of thinking that this step is supposed to update the software, and that you're supposed to click "update now". It will just open a browser window to update the software, which you can't do without being a dealership or paying for the software. What you want to click is "update later". After doing so, you can link your vehicle. You click the patch every time you want to connect to your vehicle. That's all there is to it. ... show more

  • Cable works Great. Instructions for the software is meh.
Color: V17.00.020
Running Windows 11 64 bit edition. I'm pretty experienced when it comes to any software. Been in the IT field for 10 plus years. The video included with the software is very helpful but doesn't help because the laptop they are demonstrating on is in a foreign language. So the techstream software installed easily but the driver for the cable was a pain. I was getting a Vim error whenever I opened techstream regardless of what I told techstream what driver to use. The included paperwork was only helpful for the first 3 steps and then became very unclear. In order to get the driver to work with the cable I found a registry entry on a Toyota Tacoma thread. It's called mvci_x64. reg. After downloading and installing it my cables led turned green. Unfortunately the techstream version that came with the cable did not include the tpms option for my vehicle. I have a bad sensor that isn't reading on my front left wheel. This is the purpose on why I bought this product. I want to program new tpms sensors in the ecu. However I was able to downgrade to an 8.0 version that I found online and afterwards it showed a tpms option. I'm happy with everything that was provided but for a person that isn't to tech savvy it could lead to a lot of bad reviews. I hope this review helped someone. There is a lot of information online about the software. If you are looking to program a tpms sensor and it's not showing up on this version of techstream I suggest you downgrade to an older version. ... show more

  • Saves time and money
Color: V16.00.017
This is my second cable. Bought this one for the newer version of Techstream. Works just fine on my 2010 Prius to diagnose EGR valve issue and find out which of my TPMS sensors went bad. It has already paid for itself. I did have issue with disabling my virus software but with a little research found the error it triggered to be a plausible reason to turn it off for the install. ... show more

  • Worked for me after finding help on YouTube.
Color: V16.00.017
Cable works fine. I got a spare key and TPMS replacements to work for my 2008 Toyota Matrix. The software and included instructions are junk. I tried to follow the directions but it didn’t work. Had to deal with pirated software that triggers antivirus only for it to fail to work once installed and connected. There’s a video tutorial on YouTube that has necessary links that did work. It involves setting up a virtual machine to run Windows XP. ... show more

  • The user manual is poorly written and the video is in a foreign language.

The user manual is poorly written and the video is in a foreign language. You need to search for the driver, it's under Programs. It does work.
