For what it is this is at the top of the price range for sure but for that you do get an excellent fingerprint reader and a really good mobile app for alerts if the safe is being tampered with. It's also a very sturdy safe compared to much of the competition I've been able to put my hands on. Fitting smaller firearms is a little fidgety but let's face it it's basically impossible to create a universal foam block that would fit every pistol well so do plan on making some minor tweaks. The only things that kept me from giving it 5 stars are: 1) No impact detection sensor like others in the product line have. 2) Although a PC based WiFi configuration is available I was never able to get it to work. The WiFi configuration process has clearly only been refined on the mobile app which worked well. 3) Battery installation instructions don't describe the which direction (+ vs -) the battery is to be installed. I either got it right on my first guess or orientation doesn't matter. Either way the documentation needs improvement. I really like the concept, but the product comes up somewhat short for my needs. I wanted to keep a mid-sized 9mm handgun near my bed but wanted it secure. I installed it no problem although when I tried to change the code, I had issues. The manual and online support say you can use a four-digit code which is what I wanted. It wouldn't accept it. I finally used a code with six digits, and it worked fine. The larger issue in my mind is that I couldn't fit a HK VP9 inside. I have a Holosun red dot on it and that kept it from fitting. I ended up using another gun without a red dot. Given the increasing popularity of installing red dots on handguns the manufacturer needs to redesign to accept them. ... show more

This aafe works great. If you read the current manual version and follow the instructions it has worked every time. The reader will open for me 95% of the time. Not perfect but I don't know of one biometric reader that is. My version will not allow for optic space. I believe the newest model does. But I simply use it for a non optic firearm. Easy. I have this installed on my metal bedframe, it's fast and quiet! I don't have to get out the grinder to get the content out when I forget the code as it has backup keys. The only issue I have is that it has a tiny LED on the back of it that can be a bit annoying at bed time.

    • Frustrating set up (here are some tips); could be better

I looked and looked for a concealed handgun safe to ensure quick access as needed but also to keep the gun out of the hands of unauthorized users. This one seemed the best. I just got it today and am a bit frustrated with the initial setup. This is what you need to know about it and also what you need to know when you first get the safe out of the box. First, the safe is not whisper quiet or anything close when it opens. It sounds like a metal drawer opening. Not screeching, but not particularly quiet. Second, the safe cannot be opened from a smartphone, which is what I had initially hoped for when I saw WiFi. But it can be monitored, which is cool. As for the setup, the company should eliminate the misspellings from the manuals and the website. When you pull the safe out of the box, in order to unclip the side mounting plate put the safe in the upright position with the numbers facing up. Then open the safe (use the key initially). The silver release clip is partway down on the left side of the inside of the safe when it is in the partial open position. The picture in the directions is not easy to understand. (Do not get fooled into thinking the small battery door is the clip you are supposed to pull on. The battery door is the thing hanging from the inside ceiling and it is black. Don't mess with that until you need to install the battery. I almost made that mistake given the confusing illustration in the manual.) Once the safe is open, you need to reprogram the code (which is initially 12345). The directions are very frustrating and inaccurate. Another purchaser mentioned this, but the company still has not changed the directions. You do NOT press 1 and the program button at the same time. (By the way, the program button is inside the safe on the ceiling.) Instead, first press 1 and hold it down AND THEN press the program key and hold it down, too. DO NOT PRESS THEM BOTH TOGETHER INITIALLY. (Do one and hold and then do the other and hold them down together.) This misinformation wasted way too much of my time. The App looks good but I will have to mess with it to see how effective it is. (It took quite a few times for the WiFi to connect even when I was next to the router, but once it connected, it seems to work.) I like the way the safe looks and may install it soon, but these are my initial comments. I was frustrated with the set up as you can see. FYI, I tested the fit for a Glock 19 with a laser/light attachment. I also tested the fit for a Sig Sauer P226. Both fit (not at the same time, of course). The foam feels nice and tight. I may keep or return as I just got it (and depending on whether it continues to frustrate me), but a $350 handgun safe should be a bit easier straight out of the box. The programming and use of the safe is good. The interior is on the smaller side of things. I have a magpul magwell on a glock 19 and a surefire x300u with a leupold red dot. The dot is bigger than a rmr. which is why i got it. But, with that combo, the magwell contacts the upper electronics compartment. i shaved the magwell slightly and it fits now no problem. overall happy with the safe.
