We love the colors and design of these plates and bowls. Searched long and hard for something colorful, tasteful, and not outrageously expensive. After 3 months, we still feel this way. However, the comments about them retaining moisture and tending to mold are completely accurate. There is something seriously wrong with the way the ceramic is made or fired. For us, handwashing is a deal-breaker. We have found a fairly decent solution, but you should be aware of the limitations this imposes. After receiving the plates, we ran them through the dishwasher including the heat dry cycle, then left them on the kitchen counter for 24 hours. Even after that, if you stacked them up, they would leave a ring of moisture on the plate below -- or a damp ring on the kitchen counter. Paper towels inserted between plates or bowls continued to collect moisture for days. The moisture comes only from the unglazed ring-shaped "foot" of the item. All ceramic dishware has this foot, but if it's properly made (like every other plate I've ever owned) it does not absorb moisture. [By the way, the moisture retention is probably why the plates heat up in the microwave. Microwave ovens make water molecules hot. Ceramic, glass, and stoneware should barely heat at all.] Our solution was to buy the wood dishrack shown, glue several sections together, and place the plates from the dishwasher into the rack in our cabinets. We place the matching bowls upside down on the shelves. This allows air circulation, which to date has prevented mold from forming in damp crevices. Note, though, that this takes much more space than stacking the plates like well-fired ceramic or stoneware. We don't have a remedy for the pasta bowls besides paper towels between them. And a few plates that we keep stacked in another cabinet emit moisture for weeks. We like the plates. We're happy to have found a solution that works so far. But there is definitely something wrong with their manufacture. No idea what the long-term consequences will be.
