I am extremely biased on this. Best sealed reel ever. I have several and my original one has gone through a lot of abuse and it is still solid. if you can get this on sale like I did I would jump on it.

I purchased this reel and as you may know they are not cheap. I been having trouble loading the spool with braid and mono it loads more on the bottom and less on top. I text van staal four times and never got a reply the reel might be very good but there customer service department has a lot to be desired in the future. I haven’t used it personally yet, but I can speak for its quality since many of my friends already own one, and it has truly impressed me. It’s extremely durable, fully sealed, and clearly built to handle tough saltwater conditions. Definitely feels like a long-term investment.

The VR series is not a reel where the orientation can be switched from left handed to right handed. Not fun to find this out after paying $500 for a reel. I called Van Staal, and they confirmed it cannot be switched. Beautiful reel though.

I've wanted a Van Staal for years and years, and now that I could afford one, I was not let down. The reel is amazing—the smooth drag stands out. Line spools on beautifully and casts like a dream.
