  • What a cool puzzle!
Style: style 1
This puzzle was a lot of fun. First off, you have to open every single bag and sort out the pieces. This is pretty standard for these types of puzzles, if a little annoying. I recommend having containers you can put the pieces into. 700 pieces is quite a lot to keep track of, but a lot of time and fun to assemble. The engine does work with an app to control it. It's pretty neat! My dad, who worked on heavy equipment for decades, liked this too. It was decently easy to assemble. None of the pieces were missing. I'd say it's a great value, especially as a present. • Very cool! With some flaws...
Style: style 1
The media could not be loaded. This is a really cool model! I think it offers decent educational value for kids to show them the basic functions of an engine, like the pistons, camshaft, and serpentine belt, but there is no literature included, so an adult would need to explain it in more detail. It comes with a built-in stand, and makes for an interesting display piece. There are some flaws, though, that stop me from rating this five stars... Ease of assembly: The tolerances in this kit definitely aren't as precise as the brand name... There were a lot of connections that were very loose, and others that were really tight. There were also some steps that were really tedious, like fitting several axle and tube connections together at the same time, which required piecing together two large sections while keeping them perfectly parallel, otherwise one or more of the tubes would catch and not insert properly. It was difficult for me as an adult to do, so kids will need to be supervised. These complex connections do make this a very durable model, though. The other pain was that, while there are different bags for different parts of the instructions, there are only two numbers!! There are twelve bags in total, with six for each step, and there are a LOT of parts. You definitely need to open all the bags for each section, too, since one step might need parts from three of the bags. This was a major pain and led to hunting through a huge pile of parts... Functionality: The lights straight up did not work. I tried connecting them to the motor as instructed, then to a power bank, and neither method got them to illuminate. I also could not get the app control to work. First of all, it was hard to find where to download the app at all; it's not stated in the instructions. The only place I found a link to the app was through a QR code on the side of the box - you'll need to be careful you don't throw it away, or else you're out of luck! Second, after finally finding the link, it didn't take me to the Android app store, it took me to a website with an APK file and asked me to side-load the app. This is sketchy, but I was willing to do it for the review... Except that the work profile on my phone prohibits side-loading, and I'm not willing to uninstall all my work apps just to download a sketchy app. So, unfortunately, no app control for me... You can still use the motor by pressing a button, thankfully, so not all is lost. Instructions: For the most part the instructions made sense and were easy to follow. The only exception was that some of the 1:1 pictures, which you can compare to parts that have different lengths to make sure you're using the right one, weren't always exact to the print, which caused some uncertainty during assembly. In the end, though, everything turned out fine and I wasn't thrown off by using a wrong-sized part. Build quality: For the most part, the final build fits together well. It's really durable thanks to some of the complex connections. The gears on the outside, though, aren't precisely fitted and don't work all that great. I had a lot of trouble with the chain rattling and falling off, and the rubber band slips off of its pulley if the model is jostled even a little bit. Missing pieces: I was a little anxious because there weren't many spare parts included, but in the end I did not have any missing pieces. ... show more

  • A little different than your usual building kit.
Style: style 1
So I started building this model kit with my son. Most kits have "bag 1" "bag 2" and you start with the pieces in the first bag, and work your way through them as you go with the instructions. Gives a good stopping point every so often, and you're not sorting through 5000 pieces looking for That One Piece. This one, the bags have a big "1" r "2" on them, AND a <model number>-1 (up to 16) So you figure, 16 bags, in series. Nope. You have to open up ALL of the "1" bags to get all of the parts for JUST step 1. Requiring you to open up HALF the sorted bags just to start. This goes against every other building block figure I have dealt with in decades. That frustration and the fact that some of the pieces are "black" in the printing , but are "silver" and the TINY LITTLE "4" "5" "6" on the angled pieces to identify which angled piece they are is Almost Impossible to read.. So close to 5 stars. But frustrating enough that I'm actually finally, going to ding a star off for something that isn't an Obviously Broken design. Now, that said, this is a wonderfully nice kit, and absolutely worth the money and effort to build. However, I don't see many other ways to use the pieces. So that's the only other down side. Still, we've had fun building it, and it goes quite well forward and backwards. ... show more

  • Perfect for my favorite (and only) Grandson. Lol
Style: style 1
This is something I got for my grandson for Christmas. I know it’s June, but I shop early when I can. I came across this and got super excited. My grandson is on the spectrum and he loves building these types of things so he can figure things work. It’s also something he can do with my Son-in-Law. He’s a former Marine and his job was to work on all of the heavy machinery and they love to do this type of thing together. This looks super cool and I just know he will LOVE it! It appears to be very high quality and something that will take him a bit of time to figure out so that will be awesome. ... show more

  • A fun, high quality build that’s a great STEM learning tool.
Style: style 1
The media could not be loaded. I could not tell the difference in fit or feel of the bricks which made the build process fast and easy. It simply didn’t have those 4 letters. The included instructions were very easy; even my young son had no issues following. There’s a lot of value here as the kit also included an electric motor & LED lights; that’s a rarity in any kits. This is an excellent kit to explain how combustion engines work. While not an actual functioning engine it does move via axel it illustrates very well. On its own this is a cool display piece that’d look great in any motor heads work or play area. I put together a small video to show this in action in both the light and dark. Once assembled it runs flawlessly. You becha, I recommend this kit for its value, ease of build, and display potential. Two thumbs up. ... show more
