I took a gamble buying about the cheapest ball head on Amazon but I'm more than satisfied with them. Quality metal construction that feels precision though the thumbwheels and the knob for the ball lock are plastic as is the hot-shoe adapter. I don't see much utility in using a ball head to hold a flash so everything I need out of a ball head is covered more than adequately. I like the fact that it is fairly low profile instead of long and skinny as well. (I know, That's what she said.) Anyway, overall a great buy when purchased at $5 each, I'm ordering a couple of more sets because they're cheap enough to spread around, like reading glasses. One pair for every room. ... show more

    • OK for very light weight use
These work OK for LED lights and possibly smart phones. Technically, per the specs, they should work to support my 2 pound Canon Rebel camera, but they don't work all that well for the camera which experiences sag and nodding after a period of use. I'm using these with an overhead arm tripod and after anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes, the camera will sag and I have to readjust and try to tighten the screw on the ball head. I've decided to spend a bit more money and get a ball head that, hopefully, will stay true. These little guys will be OK for my LED lights etc. so I have no problem keeping them. Just be aware that the stated 2.5kg weight capacity is not what I've experienced - they won't really hold steady with that much weight, or even half that much weight. ... show more

I do a lot of remote portrait photography.... Football players on the field, weddings, fashion, etc. Having the ability to use my Godox AD600 with dual V860 hotshoe flashes as rim/backlighting gives me more creative freedom. These ball-mounts pair with a set of "MEKNIC Cold Hot Shoe Mount Adapters" allows me to mount my hot-shoe flashes on any standard light-stand and also lets me position them into any angle I want. I needed a ball head to hold a platform accessory on a mic stand. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something for so limited a purpose. I ordered these based on the reviews. They are much better made than I expected. They are rated for a payload of 5.5 pounds. I’m using it with about a three pound load and it works just fine. In all, these are really handy.
