  • Centralizes All My Laptop Connections
Bought it to function as a docking station so I could just plug the unit and the power cord to connect my laptop to my desktop set up. I work from home, so I have a wired network connection, external camera/microphone, Bose speakers, wireless mouse, second monitor, and an SD-Card with my music and photos. Disconnecting all of this when I need to take my laptop to a meeting and reconnecting when I returned was always a process. I would give it 5 stars except for the set up issues: The instructions said you need to install a driver to make it work, so I did that. Had some difficulties with things not working when I restarted. I figured out that you need to run the DisplayLink Manager app to set it to run upon login. This should have been included in the Quick Start instructions. I had to rearrange my Displays in Mac Setup to match my configuration (my external monitor on the left and laptop on the right). A slight surprise, but a minor inconvenience. Again would be good to include in the Quick Start guide. The other minor convenience was having to configure the laptop to use USB audio for the speaker jack to work. Another item to add to the Quick Start Guide. The only really issue was with my optical mouse. I have a Logitech Optical Mouse that uses their universal driver. It tracked movement erratically when the USB adapter was plugged into the docking station. I suspect it was a conflict between the docking station driver and the Logitech driver. It was easily fixed by plugging the mouse into a USB port on the laptop. This is not a big issue since I carry the mouse with the laptop anyway. Overall a convenient product. I am using it now to simplify my desktop set up. Would be a 5 star review except for having to figure out the items listed above. ... show more

  • Nice docking station for Macbook Pro
I have a 2013 Macbook Pro with external hard drives and displays. Rather than plug and unplug all the cable every time I move my computer I decided to order this docking station. My macbook does not have USB-C. This docking station comes with a hardwired USB connector and a USB-C adapter. Perfect. There were a couple of labels that warned me to install the driver first. I did so, and then proceeded to test the different ports. I could not detect any significant difference in the speed of the external drives versus being plugged in directly. I attached an external display and it appeared to come on but was blank. I rebooted, and still no go. I then opened the "DisplayLink Manager" and the external display came alive. I added DisplayLink Manager to my login items and no longer have to run it everytime I start my computer. There are some funky things with the way the external display works. When an app is opened to full screen, it fills one display only and leaves the other display blank. Also in full screen mode the header with the minimize/maximize bar gets hidden. All in all a good solution with some software issues. ... show more

  • Works reliably but driver installation is confusing
Took me a while to test out this docking station because it required me to install drivers first. I didn’t plan on needing to invest any time or effort - just assumed it would be plug and play. Despite that, after installing the drivers, I’m happy with this unit and it’s fully functional and seems well-made. Although the station is a bit bulky, I like how solid it feels so that compensates for its size. I would recommend it just know you’ll need to install the drivers first. ... show more

  • Nice docking station, but download of video drivers requied
This docking station has all of the capability that I needed. USB, Video, Ethernet, Sound and even a card reader. Everything works just fine when attached to my laptop, except for the video. I had to go to the website and download drivers for the video. My Browser Guard software warned me not to go to that website, so I had to tell it to go anyway so that I could get the download. I scanned the driver with a malware scanner, and everything looks okay, but I hate bypassing the browser guard. ... show more

  • Decent Gock, Yet Display Adapter Driver Not Easy to Install
The Dock came with plenty of notices/warnings that the display adapters drivers needed too be updated, and clearly provided the website to find the driver. Once at the website, the drivers were there for every operating system imaginable - so far, so good. However, when I downloaded and ran the driver installation program, it stopped during the first step and said that my version of Windows 11 (the current version with standard/normal updates) would not be compatible. Given the notifications all over and inside the packaging, I found he latest drivers (I think) after a few web searches, downloaded and was able to install them with no issue. Everything else seems to run great. The only other issue is the lack of guidance on the amount of power required for the device. - zero information is provided. However, since it is clear from the product page that it is aux power for the connected devices only (not to power a PC), I just used an extra low voltage, low amp charging slot on my surge protector, and everything seemed to work fine Bottom line - a very useful dock!. ... show more
