I ordered this for my son for his 8th birthday. It is pretty simple to use, I think, though I have used microscopes in the past (not a pro, just used in science classes throughout school). It comes with quite a few prepared slides, which are plastic so they are good for children to handle on their own. I do wish there was a booklet that taught about the slides and gave some info about what you’re looking at. There are instructions for how to use the microscope that are very clear. There are also instructions for how to prepare a slide, dry and wet mount. There are a few empty slides and slide covers to use for this, however there is no indicator included to stain the specimen, so it is unlikely that you will actually be able to see cell parts making a wet mount useless. Obviously you can easily obtain the proper materials to do this, but you will have to purchase them separately. There are two lenses that come with the microscope, only one comes with a case. The other has a small plastic bag to cover it; I wish it had a second case and a dust cover for the eyepiece. The lense simply slides onto the eyepiece and is not secured at all; this makes it easy to change the lense, but it will also fall off easily if not carried properly or knocked over. This is not a child-friendly feature, nor does it teach proper microscope maintenance. Overall, I think it’s a good, less expensive starter microscope. There are those few things that you need to be aware of that I mentioned above so you can decide if it’s the right fit for your child (or yourself 😉 I think I have more fun playing with it than my son does!) It is a less expensive model, so I think you have to weigh cost vs. features.

Since 400x power is required to view cells & this microscope magnifies up to 1000x power, this microscope will last for years of fun. The details provided by the manufacturer provides all the information you need to determine if this is for you. The kit contains all you need at a good price. The only issue I have is that my Grandson wants me to donate a blood sample.

My child was curious about how some objects and bugs looked when observed closer. Since the magnifier glass or my camera super macro where no longer sufficient for her curiosity, I decided to try a beginners microscope. The Microscope by FEEMIC allowed her to see objects and bugs in a new way and opened a new world of organisms that cannot be seen with normal eyesight. This unit is very sturdy, with a strong base and arm, so there is no fear of breaking or damaging it. It comes with a with load of prepared slides, to get your kids excited about science and learning and also blank slides to do your own experiments. The Microscope by FEEMIC has built-in 4x, 10x and 40x magnification lenses and and focusing knob that is easy and simple to use. It also has 6 color filters on a rotating wheel. There are two light sources, one located on the arm and another under the stage to light up microorganism thru the bottom. That bottom light source should have been a bit stronger. I had to use and external light source to better observe microorganism or even a clear wing from a dragon fly. Also the wheel under the stage is not aligned at the center of the stage aperture. The Microscope by FEEMIC is a great way to inspire kids and show them a different view of the environment and learn scientific concepts other than what they regularly encounter. I allows kids to explore a new part of the world, that would otherwise remain out sight. There are other similar units that have the same features, higher magnification, cost a bit less and even have a carrying case.

so me and my boys got this and didn't think we would use this that much but we are using this all the time we put everything we find under it to see what it really looks like a lot of fun and worth the price its well made battery life is great its addicting to say the least highly recommend to everyone .

Works quite well but the 1000x claim definitely seems to be stretching it. It does get to 400x, but it seems like maybe a bit under 500x at most from what I was measuring. It was not able to get a clear image of some cells that should have been very obvious at 1000x. It's strong enough to use to look for tardigrades at least. It doesn't come with a cover and will collect dust fast, so you'll likely end up having to make a habit of keeping it in the box or a side case.

The microscope is very sturdy and well made. A bit smaller than expected but works well. You can enlarge to 3 different level of magnification. Come with ready to view slides as well as 7 slide you can use freely.

I bought this for my grandson who is 12 years old and a science nerd. I was super pleased with the purchase. I like the packaging and the entire presentation look great. I gave it to him, and although he liked it, it wasn’t quite as powerful or as great as what he anticipated. To him it seemed a little bit on the childish side. I kind of figured it for $86 he should’ve been a little bit more impressed. I’m sure for most kids this would be great, but if you’re buying it for someone who is super into science, it might not be enough to catch their interest
