The Quico Upgraded Air Hair Straightener is a unique addition to the "wet-to-dry" market. After spending some time with it, I’ve found it to be a solid, mostly positive upgrade for my morning routine, though it does have some specific quirks you should know before buying. The "Dry-N-Shape" Experience The standout feature is the ability to dry and straighten simultaneously. In Dry-N-Shape mode, the device uses a combination of heat and airflow. While it definitely gets the job done, the air speed is very low—it isn't anywhere near the power of a dedicated blow dryer. Because of this, the drying process itself takes longer than a standard blowout. However, since you are completing two tasks at once, the total time spent on my hair actually felt more efficient. Temperature & Airflow Controls One thing that isn't immediately obvious is how the modes differ: Drying Mode: The temperature is locked at one setting (355°F) to balance drying and safety. Style Mode: You have the flexibility of 5 different temperature settings to suit your hair type. Pro Tip: There is no airflow in Style mode. Interestingly, this information was quite hard to find; I actually had to contact Quico directly to confirm that the fan only engages during the drying phase! Design & Usability The build quality feels premium, though there are a few design elements that could be improved: Built-in Comb: There are little teeth built into the plates designed to detangle. In my experience, they weren't super effective because the teeth are a bit too short to really penetrate and glide through thicker sections of hair. Root Drying: Because this is a flat-iron shape, it struggles to get right up to the scalp. If you want to rough dry your roots first, you’ll likely need to use a traditional blow dryer for a few minutes before switching to the Quico to finish the lengths. Final Verdict If you are looking for a tool that leaves hair sleek without the "fried" smell of traditional straightening on damp hair, this is a great choice. It’s a gentle, controlled way to style. Just manage your expectations regarding the air power—it’s a finisher and straightener first, and a dryer second.

I was really excited, and cautiously optimistic, to get this hair straightener. It did not let me down. The ability to straighten while drying hair was the biggest reason I wanted this. It truly does dry while it straightens. When I tested this straightener, I worked with my hair section to section. After two passes on the section, that hair was almost completely dry. After the third, that section of my hair was dry. It is definitely nice to have both features at the same time. It will not only save a fair amount of time, but help keep me from leaving the house with wet hair - which would have been especially nice this past winter. I have Irish curls that get really frizzy if I use a blow dryer, so I always need to straighten it afterwards. However, I also have thick, fine hair, so it takes forever to get it all dry, and obviously wet hair does not work well with traditional straighteners. With a traditional flat iron, my hair sizzles as expected, but it also ends up as an incredibly flat, lifeless glob on my head. Therefore, letting my hair air dry is the best option, but there is only so early that I'm willing to get up. Because this straightener works quickly and combines two steps into one, I am more likely to be able to go out with dry hair, at least on the most frigid days. I never really tried to curl my hair with it because my hair really doesn't ever curl. Even if it looks like it might, the curls never stay long so it wouldn't be a fair evaluation. The hair straightener itself seems like it is made well. It is noticeably heavier than a traditional straightener, but that makes sense, and it isn't prohibitive, just something to get used to. It is comfortable in my hand and easy to operate, despite the fact that I have very small hands. The control panel is relatively easy to figure out. One button adjusts the temperature - which is done in 5 preset intervals - while the other button turns on the air feature. It only gets tricky because it has to be on the right temperature setting for the air to turn on, it doesn't just automatically change the temperature when the button is pushed. The opposite side of the straightener has a slide button that locks the straightener closed. It also has auto shut-off. This came with a heat resistant glove and two hair clips. The only thing I'm not sure about yet is the built in comb/brush type row along the edge of one plate. It does a good job of separating my hair, and I'm sure it helps it dry more quickly, but I have snagged my hair a few times when I'm trying to go from the bottom of my hair back to the top. It may just take some more getting used to, but right now I'm wishing there was a way to retract it so I could choose when to use it.

I was shocked by the weight of this hair straightener. This is not something that I would see myself using as a hairstylist because of the weight. I believe it is a good quality hair straightener. It has a lot of amenities to it. It really got my hair straightened, and it only took two passes. My natural hair is thin but curly. It does help to have the teeth on the edge of the heating plate. It has your standard heat levels with a max of 450. It heats up pretty well. There’s a button that you press to set the desired temperature and the number will flash. Once it is solid and no longer blinking that’s when you know it is ready. I do like the plates on this hair straightener as I said it only took two passes to straighten my hair. My hair did not feel crunchy or stiff.I did have an issue with styling. I don’t feel that the temperature of 355 is enough for my hair. I understand the fan is there to help cool the hair down, but it does not do anything to produce a curl. I do like to sleek design. It allows you to be able to sit it on a flat surface without it moving. It does have a button to lock the flat iron once you are done. It has a very long cord and the cord swivels. Overall, if you’re looking for a flat iron that has a good heating element, comes with combs attached, has several different heating levels, swivel cord, and you can also lock it, then this is for you. I however will probably not be using it as much because of the weight itself and the fact that I already have arthritis which prevents me from being able to hold and grip a lot of things.
