The photo makes it look like the cutting length is longer than it is. The second photo shows the actual cutting length - not very long. But these are so small at 1/8" you probably couldn't cut much deeper than that without snapping the bit - even with multiple passes. Of course that depends on the material you are working with. My machine has no shield so that is definitely something you want to be aware of and correct if necessary. If you need very fine bits these are not a bad deal at only $2.37 each in the multi-pack.

I'm pretty new to CNC, and I'm always trying to learn more about how to get the most from my machine. One thing I'm learning is that I probably need O-flute (single flute) bits for most work, but these 2-flute bits will certainly get their share of use. I tested them using a handheld Ridgid trim router in a bit of soft maple. I pushed the router a fair amount, and the bit held up very well. As you might expect with an upcut spiral, there was some fuzz on the surface, but a light sanding took most of that away. With such a narrow groove, the bit did leave a lot of sawdust in the cut, but it wasn't packed in as a downcut bit would do. I was happy with the sharpness, and a 10-pack for this price seems to be a pretty good value. I don't yet have a 1/8" collet, so having to use an adapter for my 1/4" collet is a bit of a pain, but that's no reflection on these bits. They did fit my 1/4"-to-1/8" adapter just fine, so the shank diameter is right on the money. Overall, I'm happy to add these to my collection and will certainly be giving them a workout.

These 1/16" upcut bits from Maihometa have a 1/8" shank, and each one comes in its out box. The bits are sharp and good for intricate detail work on my CNC. The steel isn't the best in the world, but you get ten bits for a reasonable price. I wouldn't use them for commercial milling at aggressive feeds and speeds, but for hobby work, they are a good deal. Use a reasonable feed rate and step down, and they work well. If one breaks, move on to the next one.

We use these on our CNC router to cut both hard plastics as well as MDF and hard/soft woods. These coated carbide bits cut all of these materials with ease and leave a nice smooth surface. Im waiting on one to break at this point because I am not sure they will ever dull given our use case! Great value and quality. Dimensions are spot on as well.

I haven’t programmed or used a CNC of any kind since 1991, and I don’t own a CNC router or any other CNC machine. I know that upcut bits can present a problem in uses not intended for them. Those facts now qualified, I wanted these bits for my Craftsman rotary tool, a Dremel-tool compatible device. Many years ago, when I acquired the rotary tool, I also acquired a 6” x 8” Craftsman table that accommodates the tool with an underside, adjustable mount to use the tool as a fixed router, or even a tiny jointer. Because that table is small, I made a larger table that incorporates it, and put cleats underneath so I could mount the thing on my sawhorses for chamfering and rabbeting. It is this setup that I used to test the router bits. The bits come well packaged, each one individually set in a friction setting within a tube to keep the tiny bits away from damage. Nicely packaged, the case that holds the tubes is a good, additional, protective cage. I was apprehensive in using these bits “off label,” because 1/16” diameter is quite small for hand fed work, we humans not being as consistent as programmed machines that can maintain a steady feed rate. Regardless, this was worth a risk because I do have small projects that can use 1/16” grooves. (Table saw blades produce double that width.) To test, I mounted a bit on my rotary tool, set the depth to something around 1/8 to 5/32 depth, and cut dadoes, such as one would need to hold small drawer bottoms or glass in picture frames. I used small pieces of pine, birch and plywood. I quit when I deciced that the bit did what I wanted. I’ll continue to use it, but on real projects now. As expected the off-label use of the upcut bit produced tear-out, but not chipping, so I can sand off the “burr.” I am satisfied with these bits, and I can only imagine what a nice cut they produce when used as intended. To use them as I did, these seem expensive. On a CNC they may be cost effective, but I don’t know.

Nice quantity of these bits. 1/2" of usable depth. 1/8" shank fits in my hand drill well. Double flute design is good in soft material as it ejects chips faster.
