  • Decent, but a miss for me
I bought this and an SSL18 to replace or expand my Apollo Twin. Ultimately, I decided on going with the SSL18. The UAD 876 was nice, but there is definitely more noise on the preamps and master outputs. I also was wasn't impressed with the "Vintage" mode. Having the 76 compressors on board with three modes was nice, but I preferred the sound of the 4k mode on the SSL18. I just felt it added a certain mojo and crisp analogue goodness on my synths, which is mainly what I will be recording with this device. I do like the look of UAD Console better, than the SSL 360 software, and having everything in one program was nice when running in ADAT. However, UAD Console doesn't allow you to have mirror outputs on your inputs so it is more limited. That, and having the LMC compressor to run sounds through were big factors in choosing the SSL18. Oh, and I did like how stepped the volume knobs were on the UAD. Like you would have to turn it like 15 notches just to get one light to light up. I like being able to know exactly where my master volume is for referencing a track when mixing and mastering. The UAD 876 made this more difficult unless you set the master in the UAD console, which isn't the workflow I prefer. Anyways, I hope this helps others make a decision, because it was a tough one for me. ... show more
