I picked up this handheld sewing machine kit before our family’s summer road trip, to have something on hand for quick fixes while traveling. It comes neatly packed in a compact storage bag with basic thread colors, a small soft tape measure, and even a seam ripper, all the essentials for small sewing jobs. It was easy to throw into our luggage without taking up much space. During the trip, I used it a few times to shorten the hem of my kid’s pants and to fix a small tear on a shirt. The machine itself is fairly intuitive to use, especially for someone like me who only sews occasionally. It took me a minute to get the threading right, but once it was set up, it stitched evenly and held up well. But in my opinion, it’s not meant for heavier fabrics or more complex sewing jobs. It can jam if the fabric isn’t fed just right, so there’s a bit of a learning curve and need more practice. Still, for small fixes while traveling or occasional use at home, it’s a convenient tool to have around, just know its limits.
