I tried several detectors, even much more expensive ones. The R4 is my choice It’s upgraded tech has great range and filters out the garbage signals automatically or manually and is especially good blocking aggravating trash signals coming for other cars. And when it does get a legit threat it’s on it a mile away. Other detectors have arrows, and that would be nice, but those can give off confusing signals. With the R4 range you soon get where you can tell by the signal pattern if the threat is in front, rear, or to the sides, (and the threat sounds are just cool.) This little baby is solid, huge memory for storing mutes, will itself recognize and store a false threat location after a few passes, will pretty much be quiet as a mouse until approaching a real threat. At that point the direction is not as relevant as slowing down anyway. I live in a section that uses Ks and Kas, didn’t know this till R4 educated me, so I can’t turn off the K band, but my R4 will not sound a signal from another car like I found that others do. I don’t speed much but I will get liberal with the speed limit sometimes, and that has cost me hundreds in the past With the R4 you really feel like you have and R2D2 on your side. ... show more

It's a top-of-the-line receiver. In terms of sensitivity and selectivity no competitor will out-range it by any margin worth mentioning; in fact it often outperforms the competition. Like all other top tier warning receivers it has a full-featured menu allowing setup for the areas it is used. Been using it for the past few months and it has already saved me from at least 2 tickets. False alerts do happen, but its pretty easy to realize when its not a cop. Love the ability to pair the radar with apps like Highway Radar for crowd sourced alerts along with easy control of the radar itself. Unless you really value the arrows on pricier radar detectors, I'd say this is the unit to go for. ... show more

First off, this thing is very powerful. I’ve picked up cops 5 miles before I even saw them. So it’s amazing on open highways and roads…. Now the bad…. because it’s so powerful, it’s kinda confusing to use in the city. Because it will go off and the cop might be 5 miles away in “any” direction. And because it has no directional arrows, you have no clue where the cop is, or how far away he is. So you take the good with the bad. Overall, I love it. This is a great radar detector. We just used it on a long road trip and it worked fabulously. We had an Escort that needed upgrading and after some research we went with this Uniden R4. The software needed updating to a newer version upon receipt. A video on YouTube was helpful with that. Love the R4! The suction cups that were included were hard and not the greatest. We swapped those out for some from Dollar General and were good to go. ... show more

Pros: - superb range - picks up valid signals accurately - single suction cup is powerful(esp when it’s hot!) and doesn’t fall off Cons - needs a PhD to setup using all features.

Style: Laser Radar Detector
I highly recommend this radar detector. It has many great features and options to choose from. It lets me know when there'll be a cop ahead or if there's a red light or speeding camera. The only problem I've encountered is that it doesn't shut off when I turn my car off. However I believe that problem lies with my car, I have a Ford Focus 2010 and the cigarette lighter stays on even when the car is off. Weirdly this has not made my battery die, but to be safe I might end up having a friend wire it through to connect it to a different part of the car. It does have a feature that you can turn on called battery saver which makes it shut off after some time of no use, however I didn't like the feature because once I turned my car back on, the detector wouldn't start automatically.
