Finally had a chance to try this out and it happened to be a very windy day on the river. I loaded reel spool with Stren Mono 20lb test and made a few adjustments and after casting for an hour or so I only got one birdsnest and that was due to very high winds. The reel is very smooth and casts very far even with the 20lb test. The rod is awesome and matches up well with the reel. I am very pleased with this purchase and can't wait to fish this summer in Texas for big bass knowing the reel is ultra smooth which helps with retrieving crankbaits and the rod is sensitive enough to fish with plastic worms which I use most of the time. ... show more

There is a reason the combo is $10 more than the rod alone. The rod is fantastic, but the reel is mediocre. Don't let this be your intro to baitcast reels. This makes an excellent backup and does a decent job casting once setup, but the reel is mostly plastic include drag control and retrieve handle. It was hard to get dialed in for different lure weights. There was a lot of bird nesting even though I did free fall drops to set it before I tried to cast. I also thought it was weird that the hook holder is on the back side of the eyes, opposite of all other rods I own. Do yourself a favor and get a KastKing reel for around $40-50 and you'll be much happier. ... show more

Nice fishing rod but what happened to the box?

This rob was never delivered I ordered this for my Dad I would like a refund or resend my item
