We live off grid, really off grid, in a remote, rural area. We are updating our bug out bags because even an off grid remote area could present challenges requiring a bug out camping trip! This UCO lantern caught my eye, but I wrestled with the cost for this small, basic item. The wife wasn’t impressed at the pics online but ultimately I made the choice to by two. They serve dual purposes, one for home if our solar system goes down; which could happen for a multitude of reasons including an EMP event. Second, they are small, compact, light weight and fit in a big out bag. I just received them, broke them out, and I’m amazed at the quality, the ease of use, and the amount of light they give off. You slight open, slide down the glass, light the candle and slide the glass back up. There’s a handy light magnification piece that clips on the back. I like the way it all slides and the safety of the lantern itself. There’s a handy hanging chain and a neoprene carrying case to keep it safe from breaking. The tip center circular metal piece does get quite hot, so be careful, don’t stick your thumb on it like I did a few minutes ago. I’ll be purchasing more for gifts for grandsons. We are a camping type family and these would make a great gift. The price point isn’t awful for its quality and accessories but I think a $12.99-14.99 price point would be a more fair valuation. Just my opinion. I normally wouldn’t have bought something like this for the $21 but we had some gift card money to spend. A neat product useful emergency preparedness and camping!

If you’re looking for a candle gimmick then this is it. Maybe you collect New England junk like this and it’s your thing? For starters this is made of the thinnest metal you can find. As a result, when Uco arrived at my house the 1st thing I did was push out the dent and reshape the top. Which wasn’t hard because it’s cheaply made (by design?). They put it in a foam protector The protector is too small and tight for any other parts. Junk. Of course they give you EXTRA parts that DON’T fit in the protector so let’s be honest, if you ever need that extra stuff you’ll never find it so I immediately throw that stuff in the trash. Next, when writing the review, my spell check HATES the name Uco. Can’t they fix that? Does it work? Yes but it looks like it’ll catch on fire. This design would be awesome if it was made in brass or good metal. Maybe then they could justify the high price. Edit: I’ve been using this little gem for 2 days. It worked great. It keeps the candle from blowing out. It seems like, although it still is cheap quality, it’s effective at what it’s supposed to do. 4 stars all the way.

I figured id give this a try when it went on sale let me just tell u I'm so happy I did this is awesome I love this little thing no mess great light puts off some heat lights up the whole room enough to see everything perfect to read or relax and still be able to see around you and see what ur doing great for emergencies long lasting candles great for power outages I mean u name it it's built super solid also it's safe to say this will truly last a long time and you get your moneys worth

This is compact and handy. We lose power all too often. Solar lanterns are my first go-to. But this is a good option and I’m glad to have it. The enclosed candle is safe for those furry tails we live with. I still keep it out of the easy reach of paws. This little lantern is easy to use I like the protective case as an extra for travel or go-bags. It’s also just nice candle light for sitting on the porch with a cup of tea or glass of wine while enjoying the crickets.

I own and use several UCO products, so when I received the candle lantern, I really wanted to check it out. I opened the box and removed the lantern. Packaging seemed good, initial exam seemed good, finish was good. However, when I extended the lamp, the top section (glass, top and hanging hook) only stayed vertical for a few seconds then 1 side tilted over. I then collapsed the lantern and then reread the instructions and extended the top again. Same issue. It seems that one of the 3 vertical supports kept slipping allowing the top to tilt. I tried to slide the top up again to see if it just was not fully extended. It would not raise up any farther and after a few seconds tilted down again. This would not be a problem if it hanging from an object, but sitting on a flat surface, one side wants to slide and tilt. I asked if there was something I could do to resolve but received no satisfactory response including one that recommended I read the instructions. Not very helpful. Maybe I should have ordered the larger 3 candle version, but I really wanted the single candle version especially for power failures. Will probably keep it but will to try to limit it to only hanging it from a nail or limb if outside.

I read and viewed several good online reviews so I bought one. Be sure to purchase the kit with the reflector. It almost double the light output and concentrates the light when the reflector is used. Neoprene case fits the lantern tight and it doesn't rattle. Wished the reflector would fit in the case too but it doesn't. For me it puts off just enough light to read by or see a map. Maybe younger eyes it would be better. Overall I'd recommend. Plan on buying UCO's larger Candlelier lantern too.
