Flavor Name: Orange Mango
I switched from using Gu gels for long distance runs to these. These are great, because they are not meant to be chased by water like Gu. They are very drinkable and not at all chunky or thick like other gels. The taste does take some getting used to, but it is not bad (it's not as tasteful as a Gu gel, probably because it's not packed with sugar). I find that these give me much better energy for runs, as they are not packed with any sugar, and don't give me a crash. The only caution is that the carb content is not super high, so for training for races like marathons, they may need to be taken more often than the recommended one every 75 minutes.

I’ve tried many, many different types of glucose/fructose/maltodextrin products and raced with them over the years for marathons and triathlons. UCAN is a really nice alternative to going the sweet sugary route. I switched to UCAN a few months ago. First, I used the blood orange flavor and it is truly not bad. NONE of the gels of any type are very good. It is not very sweet which is wonderful for longer events when you just can’t take in one more sweet thing. Second, it’s maybe the size of 2 gels and as it lasts about an hour or more thus the size ratio is a wash. Finally, the sustained energy works, but the feeling of a boost from this gel is not the same and may wane even more after several hours. Several athletes have suggested switching to glucose based gels/chews (or even just swish one in your mouth) after several hours or late in the workout/event and I agree. Doing so seems to wake the brain and body up and give you a little kick. This is a great product if you want to use less sugar, less calorie intake, have sustained energy, and are tired of sugar/sweet overload during events. The UCAN Energy powder “load’ lasts 1 1/2 - 2 hours and allows you to take in less nutrition early in your workout/race. I use an electrolyte drink without sugar for hydration. I recommend trying this plan out and working with it to dial it in. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I used these for two half marathons and trainings this past year and they made a world of a difference! I used took one every 4 miles and it gave me the perfect pick me up for the next leg. They were gentle on my stomach and tasted fine!

Flavor Name: Pineapple
I love the clean energy I get from this with zero sugar!! The gritty texture I can get over. I almost wish they had more of that exploding candy that was all the rage texture (iykyk I guess) but it’s really fine. The pineapple taste is decent. Overall I just really love the good mood I have from this and the energy I get to get through long runs and just throughout the day. Love these! I will also say that it says gentle on the stomach.. maybe so but every time I’ve taken it I have to find latrine fast or risk having to throw away my clothes to put it as nicely as I can. I do have IBS mixed, so take that with a grain of salt, some things do that to me and some things i wish did that to me after two weeks of the opposite happening. So in some ways it’s not a bad thing for me, but if you have a super sensitive stomach and you don’t like having to rush to a toilet then be aware. Otherwise incredible and I really only give it four stars for the gritty texture not because of my stomach issues. Work on the texture it would be 5/5 and I’d probably be using these more than just 1-3 times a day. Great substitute for caffeine!!! And great for a mood boost (who would have thought) definitely recommend!!

I used these while training for a marathon and loved them, I love that they do not have any added refined sugar. I was nervous that I would run out of energy during a marathon, and that I would need actual sugar during the marathon. These worked wonderfully for me during the New York marathon! I love how they last longer than usual gels. I never hit the wall during the race.

Just received a packet last week and tried them on a long run, eleven miles, yesterday. I had been using goo packs and taking one starting at mile 5 then another every two miles. With those I felt a quick boost of energy in about 5 minutes then losing it 15 or so minutes later. Yesterday I took a goo at mile five and then tried the UCAN at mile 7. I didn't get the jolt with goo, but was glad to see my energy level was sustained the remaining for miles of my run. As a note, the slightly longer neck of the packet makes it easier to get the gel into my mouth.

Flavor Name: Strawberry Banana
Embarking on my journey to conquer the half-marathon, I found my secret weapon: UCAN Edge Energy Gel Shots, in the exquisite flavor combo of strawberry banana. These little packets of goo promised to be the turbo boost my running shoes never knew they needed. So, I stashed them in the high-tech vaults of my compression tights, ready to unleash their power mid-stride. Alas, my dreams of effortless energy were punctured, quite literally, during the final rehearsal runs. Not one, but two of these gelatinous grenades decided to go kamikaze in the outer realms of my spandex fortress, leaving me less like a slick, speed demon and more like a sticky, fruit salad on legs. Come race day, I thought I had mastered the art of gel transportation, only to discover that one of my squishy companions had yet again embraced its explosive destiny. There I was, crossing the finish line, not in a blaze of glory, but in a splatter of strawberry banana - a walking, talking advertisement for how not to fuel your run. In the end, while the UCAN Edge Energy Gel Shots did indeed add an unexpected edge to my runs, it was less about the edge of peak performance and more about the edge of how many ways one can unintentionally wear their snack. Who knew race prep included mastering the art of gel shot containment?
