I use this very heavy battery (solar generator) to run my RV refrigerator instead of propane over the road. It is too heavy to lift and the last method caused me to drop it. This made this loading easy. The crank was easy to turn despite the weight.

As noted below, my previous winch had a failure but I was using it to level a dock, not winch a boat. The seller was very responsive, and quickly sent me a new winch but this time with a strap. The winches themselves are good quality. The strap appears to be a better option than the cable. I have also revised my usage to put less stress on the hook and therefore have had zero problems. My case was a little more extreme. As a boat winch this should work just fine. **Previous Review** Fair warning ** I did not use this on a boat winch post. I bought this to level my dock legs. It worked well on the first two legs, but on the third leg the hook at the end of the steel cable exploded and flew into the lake. I'll have to engineer a new solution. The steel cable also unspools unless you keep tension on the cable, which is kind of a pain. ... show more
