  • I am beyond happy with this roof basket
I had originally purchased the more common steel bar rack. I drove to get dinner and the wind noise was so bad I took it off and sent it right back. Fast forward 2 years. I was moving from Seattle to Utah in the winter snow and needed the extra storage space a roof basket offered. I wasn’t sure if I should get a cheap one and take it off when I didn’t need it or go all out and get this fancy one. I decided after reading the reviews that the cheaper ones needed so much extra effort to make them usable: paint, sealing, dealing with rust water… plus they look cheap. This one looked a little over the top for me… I wasn’t a fan of the red trim on it. But I decided I’ll spend more and hopefully not have any issues and it was the approx size of my roof. It was so easy to put it together. The seams/joints are all covered. The design of it breaks up the wind enough to only make the slightest howl at 70mph+ Utah has 80mph speed limits so don’t worry haha. I had my full sized spare on it with latching straps. I got a nice roof bag on here also that is water proof and filled the rest of the space up nicely. I then covered the whole roof basket with a bungee cargo net that I also purchased on here. There was very little to no wind noise even with all of that on my roof. Nothing moved in the slightest. I like how this basket is 8” deep when the rest are 6” I felt it added extra security on our 13 hour trip. I was going to take off the basket when we got here and install it if I needed to but it looks so darn cool and completes the look that I wanted on my VW Atlas. I wanted that off-road adventure look and this completed it. I’d still rather have dark grey or maybe some optional color choices for the red trim pieces I’d be happy with all black but the Red will work and I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Very Solid Piece of Equipment
Due to an impromptu trip to Florida, I needed a cargo basket to install on the top of a 2017 Buick Enclave. I ordered two different baskets and would use the one that arrived on time as the arrival times were listed beyond my departure date; both arrived prior to the departure date. The other basket was a highly rated, expensive and a well known brand. The first thing I noticed was the box the Tyger arrived in was very stout and banded. If they take care in protecting their product in shipping, its a good bet the product will be good. In opening the box, the components were padded at all friction points and tightly secured so movement did not occur during delivery. There were no scratches or dents upon unpacking. The components were strategically placed and well organized in the box. The box for the other brand was flimsy with one of the ends protruding through the box. I used the extension to maximize the length of the basket; the fittings were snug and bolted down easily. The joints were pre-lubricated and appeared waterproof. One feature I liked were the mounting brackets, which were contoured to fit the cross rails on top and the bottom. All other baskets I reviewed use a u-bolt to attach the basket to the cross rails. There is only one flaw - the mounting bolts for the brackets are about 3/8" too long if the cross rails are low profile. Shorter bolts should be used - otherwise if the cross rails flex, the roof of the vehicle could be scratched or gouged (use M6 bolts which can be purchased at any hardware store). The product is clean looking and very sporty. There are numerous locations for tie-downs and the basket can take considerable torque without flexing. This is a very good product at a good price. ... show more

  • Rugged, Good Looking Rack
As you may gather from the picture, I purchased this rack for one purpose - to carry my spare when I head off-road. After researching various options to mount the spare on my Grand Cherokee, I went with a roof rack primarily because it pretty much cost the same as installing a hitch mount, but with way less hassle. The rack also gave me a ton more cargo options than a hitch. Enough of that, though... how 'bout the rack? It was super easy to assemble, and just as easy to mount. The 1.5" tubing just LOOKS so much tougher than almost all other cargo baskets I've seen. I was really most interested in buying the model without the extension, but it was unavailable anywhere until just a couple weeks ago, and the sale price of this unit made the purchase a no-brainer for sure. It is a perfect fit for my spare (285/70 R17) in the short configuration, and held up admirably through some moderately rough terrain and plenty of hard jostling on the trail. The rear bolts settled under the load and just BARELY scraped the roof, but that will be easily remedied with an additional washer or two. That's really more of a crossbar issue anyway. Otherwise, it looks and performs great so far. This is the first time I used it, so I have no idea how it's going to work in wet/cold/ extreme weather, but the finish was still completely intact, so I don't anticipate any real issues with that for the near future. I am very satisfied with it thus far, and couldn't be happier with the purchase. ... show more

  • Beware the red pieces fade to pink
It’s a great roof rack but every red piece faded badly to pink. We will have to disassemble and try to paint black

  • Great looking and sturdy.
Great looking and very sturdy. The price is high, but it seems you get what you pay for. it was well packaged and the powder coat was flawless. The air dam doesn't have to be installed, but it's reversible. So you can simply put the plain black side facing out if you're not a fan of the logo. The only complaint I have is that it comes with these plastic rain plugs that are intended to slip into the open ends of the extension during installation, but the plugs are larger in diameter than the female end of the tubing, preventing you from being able to complete the assembly according to the directions. Driving in the vehicle, we honestly don't notice much more wind noise up top. It's there, but we can still speak in conversational tones on a chip seal highway. Quieter than the road noise, at least. Side note: If you're looking for a clean solution for a spare tire mount, I purchased the somewhat overpriced Yakima brand mount. It will work for the Tyger baskets with basic modification. I took the mounting plate to a machine shop and had them drill some new holes for the mounting bolts. 5 minutes for anyone with a drill press. $10 at my local shop. ... show more
