Though this frame included a small rubber mallet to hammer in the pieces so they fit tightly, I didn't need to use it at all. In 15 stressless, easy minutes, I put this frame together without any tools, and it's so much more secure than the metal frame I had before. My mattress is super thick, so I wish this frame was two inches lower, but that aside, I love this frame and the quality of sleep I've enjoyed since using it. I love how easy this was to setup! We put this in our basement guest room (usually for the kids) and it looks great. Its the perfect size and is very sturdy considering we didn't use a box spring. This was probably the easiest bed frame I have ever assembled. I was able to put this together quickly with no tools. Each end just slides into the corners. The mattress goes directly on the frame and the bed frame is very sturdy.
